Pirate Boys Soccer Wins First Game Of The Year

The Crookston Pirate Boys Soccer team used an Eric Delorme hat trick to lead them to a 6-0 victory over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley in a Section 8A match-up at Walker.
The teams had a good battle early on and about halfway through the first half, Crookston scored two goals within a three-minute span when Eric Delorme started the scoring with a goal less than 18 minutes into the game.  Crookston’s Jake Anderson followed with a goal three minutes later and the Pirates took a 2-0 lead halfway through the first half.  Crookston had a few more scoring opportunities in the half, but the WHA goalie came up with some big stops and Crookston took a 2-0 lead into halftime.  “We were getting some good feeds in the first half,” said Pirate Coach Don Cox. “Eric and Jake were in the right spot at the right time.”
In the second half, Crookston scored four goals as they peppered the WHA goalie with 10 shots in the half.  Eric Delorme scored his second goal of the game, nine minutes into the second half.  Anderson followed with a goal two minutes later for a 4-0 Pirate lead.  There wasn’t any scoring for almost 20 minutes until Jacob Brunelle scored and the Pirates ended the scoring when Delorme scored his third goal of the game with six seconds remaining for a 6-0 victory.  “I told the guys that I wanted to double our scoring in the second half and they listened,” said Coach Cox. “We were keeping the pressure on them and clearing the ball out.  Our front four did a good job and they were feeding each other.”
Coach Cox said the referee told him that the Crookston boys were very polite and conducted themselves in an exemplary manner.
Crookston improves to 1-4 on the year and will play Pelican Rapids on Tuesday.  Walker-Hackensack-Akeley drops to 0-4 on the year.
