The Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team struggled offensively as the Barnesville Trojans cruised to a 78-51 victory in a Section 8AA game at the Barnesville High School gymnasium.
FIRST HALF –
Barnesville had a solid start to the game as they used suffocating defense to take a 9-0 with five points from Abi John and four points from Sophie Frederick. Crookston’s first points came over three minutes into the game when Chloe Boll made two free throws. Barnesville struggled from the field but was outstanding on the defensive end and led 27-15 with five minutes left in the half. Crookston’s offense started to pick up as Chloe Boll and Brooklyn Waldal made back-to-back baskets before Chloe added two more free throws to cap a 6-0 run. Barnesville’s Abi John made a basket before Crookston’s Halle Nicholas made a three-pointer to bring the Pirates within a 29-24 deficit with 1:45 left in the half. Barnesville ended the half on a 9-1 run and took a 38-25 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF –
Barnesville came out ready to play in the second half as they went on a 17-5 run with Ava Follingstad pouring in 11 points, Abi John adding four points and Jayla Amundson adding a basket for a 50-28 lead three minutes into the half. Crookston stopped the run with four Chloe Boll points and a basket from Nicholas. Barnesville continued to slowly add to their lead and built a 30-point lead several times in the half and coasted to a 78-51 victory.
Crookston drops to 5-13 on the year and will host Fosston on Monday at 6:00 p.m. Barnesville improves to 11-4 on the year.
