PIRATE GIRLS GOLF COMPETES AT PRE-SUB-SECTION MEET IN PARK RAPIDS

The Crookston Pirate Girls Golf team competed in the Pre-Sub-Section Meet in Park Rapids on Wednesday at Headwaters Golf Club. The Pirates took second place in the event shooting a 400 and were led by Kaylie Clauson who finished 3rd individually with a 96. Roseau won the event with a team score of 389.

Freshman Kaylie Clauson led the way for the Pirates shooting a 96, and starting her round with a 47 on the front nine. Clauson recorded two pars before the turn, one on the 305-yard par-four second hole, and the other on the 395-yard par-five fourth hole. She added three bogeys, and four double bogeys for her 47. On the back nine, she didn’t score on any holes but was extremely efficient with five bogeys and four double bogeys for a 49 to give her a total score of 96, and a 3rd place finish individually. 

Junior Grace Fischer started her round with a par on the 296-yard par-four first hole and followed with a double bogey, bogey, and another double-bogey before a par on the 305-yard par-four fifth hole. She finished the last four holes on the front nine with one par, two bogeys, and a quadruple bogey for a front nine score of 47. On the back nine, Fischer recorded one par on the par-five 408-yard fifteenth hole, along with one bogey, six double bogeys, and one triple bogey to card a 52 for a total score of 99 which earned her a 4th place finish individually.

8th grader Halle Nicholas failed to get a par on the front nine but also didn’t shoot anything worse than a double bogey. She carded three bogeys and six double bogeys for a front nine score of 51 just like Martin. It was a similar back nine for Nicholas, as she also shot another 51 with four bogeys, four double bogeys, and a triple bogey on the 324-yard par-four fourteenth hole. The two 51s were good for a total score of 102

8th grader Ava Martin was the last score the Pirates used, and she started her round with back-to-back double bogeys, followed by a bogey, and a triple bogey. She recorded a par on the 305-yard par-four fifth hole and shot a bogey and three double bogeys the rest of the way on the front nine for a tally of 51. On the back nine, Martin carded a 52 with four bogeys, three double bogeys, and two triple bogeys giving her a total score of 103.

Also competing in the meet for the Pirates were Sophmore’s Morgan Nelson and Coral Brekken. Nelson shot a 107 on the round with her one par coming on the 305-yard par-four second hole. Brekken shot a 116 with two pars. Her first par came on the 272-yard par-four seventh hole, and the second one came on the 146-yard par-three seventeenth hole.

The Pirates will next compete on Tuesday, May 31, in Thief River Falls for a triangular at the Thief River Falls Golf Club. All the results from the Pre-Sub-Section meet today are below.
