PIRATE GIRLS GOLF WINS CROOKSTON INVITATIONAL AT MINAKWA GOLF COURSE, FISCHER AND NICHOLAS FINISH TOP 3 INDIVIDUALLY

The Crookston Pirate Girls Golf team hosted an invitational this morning at Minakwa Golf Course. The Pirates won the event shooting a 403, and Grace Fischer took 2nd place individually with a score of 89, while Halle Nicholas took 3rd place with a 99. “You always want to win your home invite,” said Pirate Coach Jeff Perreault. The scores were a little higher than usual today but a lot of that had to do with the course conditions, and I thought the girls did a good job of scoring well and putting themselves in a position to have success.”

The Pirates as mentioned were led by Grace Fischer. The first time through the course Fischer shot a 45 with three pars, four bogeys, and two double bogeys. The second time around she shaved off 1 stroke for a score of 44 with three pars, five bogeys, and one double bogey on the 266-yard par-four fifth hole. Fischer did par the 124-yard par-three fourth hole both times she played it, and her total score of 89 was good for 2nd place individually. “She has been very consistent for us all season,” said Pirates Coach Jeff Perreault. “Overall she had a very good round to score well and place 2nd individually.”

Next up for the Pirates was Halle Nicholas who broke 100 with a score of 99. Nicholas started her first time around the course with three pars and a bogey for a +1 score through four holes. She carded three bogeys, a double bogey, and a triple bogey, on the final five holes for a score of 46 the first time around the course. The second time around Nicholas shot a 53 with one par on the 124-yard par-three fourth hole, one bogey, six double bogeys, and a triple bogey for a total score of 99 which was good for 3rd place individually. “Right now her short game has been really good,” said Pirates Coach Jeff Perreault. “She chipped in once today and really has just done a nice job for us of controlling her short game and she is scoring well because of it.”

Ava Martin also had a solid round for the Pirates carding a 105. The first time playing the course Martin had two pars (holes 3 and 6), four bogeys, a double bogey, a triple bogey, and a quadruple bogey on the 343-yard par-four second hole. The second time around Martin shot a 55 with one par on the 184-yard par-four sixth hole. She added three bogeys, three double bogeys, a quadruple bogey, and a 9 on the 266-yard par-four fifth hole. “Ava had a couple of bad breaks today and that affected her score a little bit,” said Pirates Coach Jeff Perreault. “I fully expect her to be back under 100 consistently moving forward.”

Morgan Nelson was the last score the Pirates used as a team. Nelson shot a 52 through the first nine holes with one par that came on the par-three 124-yard fourth hole. She added three bogeys, three double bogeys, and two triple bogeys, for her 52 the first time around the course. She shot a 54 the second time through with four bogeys, three double bogeys, a triple bogey, and a quadruple bogey on the par-five 412-yard eighth hole for a total score of 106. “I think Morgan was feeling better about her game today, especially off the tee,” said Pirates Coach Jeff Perreault. “She did a good job of setting herself up for success and she is starting to come around at the right time.”

Also participating in the meet for the Pirates were Kaylie Clauson, Coral Brekken, Georgia Sanders, and Emelia Hoerner. Clauson shot a 110 with four pars, Brekken a 117 with three pars but a 13 on the 412-yard par-five eighth hole, Sanders a 119, and Hoerner a 120.
