The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team won their first game of the year with a 1-0 victory over Mesabi East in Aurora, Minnesota.
There was no scoring in the first half, but Crookston had seven shots on goal compared to Mesabi East’s two shots for a solid half on the offensive and defensive end. 15 minutes into the second half, Hailey Spivey scored a goal to give Crookston a 1-0 lead. The Pirate defense had an outstanding second half, limiting Mesabi East to one shot on goal and Crookston held on for their first victory of the year and a 1-0 over Mesabi East. “We played fantastic today. Great passing and runs with a lot of shots, which is nice to see,” said Pirate Coach Sarah Reese. “We were persistent to get to the net. It was a fun win today and a great team effort.”
Crookston improves to 1-11-1 on the year and will host East Grand Forks on Tuesday.
