The Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team beat Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 7-0, beat Park Rapids 5-2 and was trailing #8 ranked Pequot Lakes 3-2 when rain stopped play at the Park Rapids quadrangular played in Park Rapids.
CROOKSTON vs LONG PRAIRIE-GREY EAGLE
Crookston beat Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 7-0 in the first round of the Park Rapids quadrangular. Crookston only lost three games in singles and won all seven matches in straight sets. “We played pretty well in that one,” said Pirate Coach Cody Brekken. “We had three eighth-graders in the singles line up so it was nice to see.”
Two eighth-graders, Halle Winjum and Brekken Tull, won their second and fourth singles matches 6-0, 6-0. “The girls played well and took control playing a team that was a little inexperienced and that was nice to see,” said Coach Brekken.

CROOKSTON VS PARK RAPIDS
Crookston won three of the four singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to earn a 5-2 victory over the Park Rapids Panthers in a Section 8A matchup. The second, third and fourth singles players of Catherine Tiedemann, Halle Winjum and Hannah Lindemoen cruised to straight-set victories with Lindemoen outscoring her opponent 12-0. “The two, three and fourth singles did a really good job and had quick matches,” said Coach Brekken. “They played well and looked strong in their matches.” Both of the Crookston losses were in three sets, so most of the matches were tight until the end. “The doubles combos played well and had three three-set matches so they were very close,” said Coach Brekken. “Our two losses were in three sets so we had a chance to win the match by a larger margin.”

CROOKSTON VS PEQUOT LAKES
#8 ranked Pequot Lakes led Crookston 3-2 and led in the two matches that were still being played when rain came and shortened the match. Crookston had a nice win at second singles with Catherine Tiedemann winning in three sets and Halle Winjum won at third singles in two sets, but needed a tie-breaker in each set. “We played well in our tight matches today, which was nice to see,” said Coach Brekken. “Halle played some good, solid tennis and was able to get up to the net and limited the long rallies. Catherine started slow, but picked up her game and really played well in the match. That was a nice win. It was a great day and we keep getting better and that is nice to see.”
Crookston is now 4-3 on the year and will travel to Moorhead on Friday for a dual.
