PIRATE WRESTLERS HAVE TWO CHAMPIONS, FINISH 2ND IN RODD OLSON INVITATIONAL

The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team had six wrestlers in the championship and came away with two champions and a team runner-up finish with 162 points, 51 points behind United North Central, as they hosted the Rodd Olson Invitational Wrestling tournament at the Crookston High School gymnasium.

PIRATE INDIVIDUAL TOP FINISHES – 

CHAMPIONS –
At 138-pounds, Casey Weiland had a first-round bye and won his second match by a 9-5 decision.  In the championship match, he pinned Callen Whitney in the second period to become the first Pirate champion of the day.

At 195 pounds, Ethan Boll received a first-round bye and in the semi-finals, he won his match by a pin in 30 seconds.  The win was the 125th career victory for Boll, who is a junior.  In the championship, Boll jumped out to a 5-0 lead before getting a pin in 1:43 to win the second Pirate championship of the day. 

SECOND-PLACE
At 106-pounds, Evin Trudeau received a bye in his first round before winning the semi-final match 4-0 to advance to the championship match.  Evin ran into a tough opponent in the championship as Robby Sherk of Park Rapids beat him by a pin in 47 seconds and Trudeau finished runner-up.

At 120 pounds, Gavyn Hlucny received a bye in the first round and won by a 12-1 major decision in the semi-finals.  In the championship, he was pinned in the first period and finished runner-up.  

At 152 pounds, Ethan Bowman won his first-round match by an 11-0 decision and he won the semi-final match by pin in the second period.  In the championship, he lost a heart-breaking 3-2 decision to finish second place.

At 182 pounds, Hunter Knutson won his first match by pin in the first round and won an exciting 5-4 decision in his second round.  In his final match of the round-robin bracket in his weight class, he lost by a pin in the first period and finished second place.
