Planning Commission to recommend Electric Line Easement for Ottertail Power in “Aunt Polly Slough”

The Crookston Planning Commission met on Tuesday, May 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.  This was the first meeting for new committee member Alex Tappe. The agenda for Tuesday’s meeting saw the approval of the Meeting Minutes from the January 17, 2025, meeting.

The other item on the agenda was Jerome’s Addition, aka “Aunt Polly Slough,” where Ottertail Power Company is requesting an Electric Line Easement. “Basically, they are putting in a new underground (UG) line instead of the overhead (OH) line that was there previously,” says Building Official Greg Hefta. “It’s just through city land, and basically, we need a new easement. They are slightly diverted, but almost on exactly the same travel path, for the overhead to the underground line.”

Ottertail Power intends to install UG cabling to replace some OH power lines by providing power feeds through the parcels currently owned by the City of Crookston.  New UG conductors will be installed, replacing the overhead conductors that are nearing their service life along a similar path. “They just wanted a simple easement correction on the land that has already been used previously by Ottertail Power, so, pretty simple meeting here,” says Hefta. “The City Planning Commission does recommend to the City Council that they go forward with this and allow this easement for Ottertail Power.”

This item will be on the agenda at a future City Council Meeting for Council approval.
