POLK COUNTY REMINDS THE PUBLIC THAT FIRST-HALF PROPERTY TAXES ARE DUE MAY 15

The Polk County Assessor’s Office has sent notices to every homeowner in Polk County regarding the payment of property taxes.

The first half of the payments for property taxes is due state-wide on Wednesday, May 15, for all residential properties and property classified as agricultural. “All residential and agricultural first half (payments) are due on May 15,” said Polk County Assessor Mark Landsverk. “The only exception for the first half is for manufactured homes.” Manufactured homes and property owners will receive their first half of their property tax statements in July. The due date for the first half of payments will be on Saturday, August 31.

Polk County residents received their home valuations in the last week of March, and townships have held their local board of equalization meetings where homeowners can contest or ask questions regarding their valuations. “On June 18, we’ll have our county board review for valuations,” said Landsverk. “There’s also open book, where you can appeal any time prior to June 1.”

If homeowners would like to appeal their valuations after June 1, they must present their appeal to the Polk County Commissioners on June 18. For those who have questions or want more information regarding their property tax statements and valuations, contact the Polk County Assessor’s Office at 218-281-4186. “We want to get our information as accurate as possible,” said Landsverk, “We don’t mind when someone comes along and says, ‘We don’t have a finished basement, and you have us listed as basement finished.’ We’re happy to fix the problem. We just want to have the correct data.”

All payments can be made at the taxpayer service center at the Polk County Government Center from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or you can mail in your payments. Mail-ins must be postmarked by midnight, Wednesday, May 15. Make sure to include your parcel number or tax statement stub with your payment. Stop by the Polk County taxpayer service center or mail your payments to the Polk County taxpayer service center at 612 North Broadway, suite 207, Crookston, Minnesota, 56716. Checks should be made payable to the Polk County Administrator.
