POLK COUNTY REPORTS 2 COVID DEATHS AS STATE AUDIT UNCOVERS 891 UNREPORTED COVID-19 CASES, 138 UNREPORTED DEATHS

The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting 1,122 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, 519 probable cases from antigen testing, and 140 deaths.

An audit by MDH epidemiologists of unverified possible COVID-19 case reports identified 891 cases and 138 deaths that were previously unreported to MDH by private labs in violation of a state rule. These cases and deaths occurred over the course of the last year. The cases will be attributed to the appropriate date in the “Positive cases by date specimen collected data table.” However, deaths will appear as a one-day spike because deaths are represented by the date reported.

Norman County had 5 confirmed cases, Mahnomen County, and Marshall County each had 1 case. Polk County had two deaths reported a 70-74-year-old and a 90-94-year-old.

Updated March 9, 2021
Updated daily at 11 a.m., with data current as of 4 p.m. the previous day.

Data is for cases that were tested and returned positive. All data is preliminary and may change as cases are investigated. Many data points are collected during case interviews. Data presented below is for all cases, regardless of interview status. Data for cases pending interview may be listed as “unknown/missing.”

Positive PCR test results are considered confirmed cases. Positive antigen test results are considered probable cases.

All probable cases get the same public health follow up and recommendations as cases confirmed by PCR tests.

Daily Update:

Because all data is preliminary, the change in number of cumulative positive cases and deaths from one day to the next may not equal the newly reported cases or deaths.
