The Polk County Soybean and Corn Growers and their checkoff dollars are supporting the Fertile – Beltrami school and Future Farmers of American (FFA) program by sponsoring shirts for Youth Farm Safety Day.
In light of recent farm accidents that involve youth under the age of 13, the Fertile – Beltrami FFA will be hosting a Farm Safety Day to specifically target the elementary students in the district once COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted and students return to school
“We think it is a great opportunity for our council to help educate young students on farm safety,” says Kevin Krueger, president of the Polk County Corn and Soybean Growers. “It is valuable to have children learn about safety and agriculture.”
“The FFA wants to create more awareness and prevent these horrific farm accidents that have been happening in Minnesota”, says Whitney Rupprecht, Fertile – Beltrami FFA Advisor and Agricultural Education Instructor.
She also notes that the goal with the safety day will reach all 300 Fertile – Beltrami elementary students. The students will leave with knowledge, printed workbooks, pictures, a t-shirt, and snacks relevant to the workshops they attend.
