Red Lake County American Legion baseball beat Fosston and falls to Warroad

The Red Lake County American Legion Post 22 Baseball team scored four runs in the sixth inning to pull away to beat Fosston Post 114 9-4 in the first round of the Northwest Sub-state North Division tournament at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.

FIRST INNING-
Red Lake County’s Boe Nelson singled with one out to get things started with a single. Ben Gullingsrud walked and Kegan Schmitz singled to load the bases. Cain Cardinal hit a fly ball to centerfield that was caught, but it was deep enough to allow Nelson to come into score for a 1-0 lead.
Fosston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

SECOND INNING-
Red Lake County’s Ivan Delorme was hit by a pitch with one out, and Denny Lanctot singled. Boe Nelson hit a fly ball in the infield, and Fosston had miscommunication, and the ball landed between two players. Fosston got the out at second base, but Delorme came into score for a 2-0 lead.
Fosston’s Kegan Hruby doubled and came into score on a Jake Howard groundout to get within a 2-1 deficit.

THIRD INNING – 
Red Lake County’s Kegan Schmitz led off the walk before the next three batters were retired.
The first two Fosston batters were retired before Jakob Rudie singled. The next batter was retired.

FOURTH INNING-
Red Lake County’s Sam Rath led off the inning with a walk. After an out, Denny Lanctot tripled to score a run. Boe Nelson singled to score a run before Gullingsrud was hit by a pitch, and Schmitz singled to load the bases. Cardinal hit a fly to centerfield to score a run, and Red Lake County led 5-1.
Fosston answered in the bottom of the inning with Hruby walking, and with two outs, Jake Howard doubled to score a run. Darien Holzer walked, and Brady Landsverk reached on an error that allowed two runs to score, and Fosston trailed 5-4.

FIFTH INNING-
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
Fosston’s Tanner Vig reached on an error with one out before the next two batters were retired.

SIXTH INNING-
With one out, Red Lake County’s Trevor Lee walked, Gullingsrud doubled and Schmitz was intentionally walked to load the bases. Cardinal, who had two sacrifice flies earlier in the game, hit a line drive to right field. The ball was misplayed, and the error allowed three runs to score, and Cardinal was at third base. Gunnar Broden singled to score the fourth run of the inning for a 9-4 lead. The next two batters were retired.
The first two Fosston batters were retired before Darien Holzer walked. The next batter struck out.

SEVENTH INNING-
Red Lake County’s first two batters were retired before Lee walked. The next batter flew out.
Fosston’s first batter was retired before Rudie singled. The next two batters were retired and Red Lake County won the game 9-4.

Red Lake County advances in the winners’ bracket and will play the winner of Warroad and Thief River Falls at 6:30 p.m. tonight. KROX will have the game on the radio.

Red Lake County vs Warroad

Warroad scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away for a 10-4 victory over Red Lake County on Friday night.

FIRST INNING-
Red Lake County’s Ben Gullingsrud walked with two outs before the next batter struck out.
Kasen Pietruszewski started the bottom of the inning with a single. He stole second base and moved to third base on an error. The next two batters were retired before Sam Hard singled to score a run for a 1-0 lead.

SECOND INNING-
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
Butter Butler started the bottom of the inning with a triple to the right field fence and scored on a Connor Lien sacrifice fly to left field for a 2-0 lead.

THIRD INNING-
Red Lake County’s Ivan Delorme led off the third inning with a single down the third baseline. After the next two batters were retired, Cain Cardinal walked and Ben Gullingsrud was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kegan Schmitz hit a hard ground ball up the middle into centerfield to score two runs to tie the game at 2-2. The next batter was retired.
Warroad was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

FOURTH INNING
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and one groundout.
Warroad’s Sam Hard led off the bottom of the inning with a triple and scored on a Wesley Shreiner sacrifice fly for a 3-2 lead.

FIFTH INNING
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout, groundout, and pop-out.
Warroad’s Pietruszewski singled and stole second. Christian Daoheoang reached on an error, and Chamernick doubled to score a run. After a pop out, Shreiner singled to score a run for a 5-2 lead.

SIXTH INNING-
Red Lake County’s Schmitz walked, and with two outs, Kole Kleven tripled to score a run, and Post 22 trailed 5-3.
Warroad got some big insurance runs in the bottom of the inning with Brady Fast leading off with a single. With one out, Kael Thompson singled, and Pietruszewski walked to load the bases. Daoheoang walked to score a run, and Chamernick singled to score two runs. After the second out of the inning, Shreiner singled to score a run for a 10-3 lead.

SEVENTH INNING-
Red Lake County’s first two batters struck out, but Denny Lanctot walked, Cardinal was hit by a pitch, and Gullingsrud walked to load the bases. Schmitz walked to score a run, and that is all they would get as Warroad held on for a 10-4 victory.

Red Lake County will play in a loser-out game on Sunday, July 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Jim Karn Field in Crookston. Warroad advances to the championship game on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
