RED LAKE COUNTY BASEBALL CRUISES PAST BLACKDUCK

The Red Lake County Rebel Baseball team scored six runs in the first inning and cruised the rest of the way to beat the Blackduck Drakes 19-1 in five innings in a loser-out game in the Section 8A Baseball tournament played at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.

FIRST INNING
Red Lake County had a great start to the game, with Will Gieseke reaching on a bunt single, Ben Gullingsrud singled to center field, and Brock Seeger reaching on an infield single to load the bases with nobody out. A run scored on a wild pitch before Blake Audette reached on an error, and two more runs scored for a 3-0 lead. Colin Taggart walked before Keegan Schmitz crushed a fly ball to the right field warning track for a triple that scored two runs for a 5-0 lead. Blake Breiland walked, Brock Knott reached on an error, and another run scored for a 6-0 lead.
Blackduck answered in the bottom of the inning when Will Lien walked and Max Bahr singled. The next two batters were retired. Max Lundberg singled to score a run to bring Blackduck within a 6-1 deficit.

SECOND INNING
Red Lake County’s Gullingsrud led off the inning with a single before te next two batters were retired. Colin Taggart walked before the next batter was retired.
Blackduck was retired in 1-2-3 fashion on five pitches.

THIRD INNING
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. Blackduck had a batter reach on an error and another reach on a fielder’s choice. With two outs, Jaydin Rockis singled, but the next batter struck out.

FOURTH INNING
Red Lake County added more runs in the fourth inning when Gieseke led off with a double, Gullingsrud singled, and Seeger doubled to score two runs. Seeger scored the Rebels ninth run of the game when he stole home for a 9-1 lead.
Blackduck was retired in 1-2-3 fashion, and Red Lake County took a 9-1 lead into the fifth inning.

FIFTH INNING
Red Lake County’s Breiland walked to lead off the fifth inning. Brock Knott blasted a line drive to the right-center field gap for a triple to score a run for a 10-1 lead. Ashtin Fredrickson singled to score a run. Gieseke was hit by a pitch, and Gullingsrud walked. A run scored on a wild pitch before Seeger hit a line drive to the right-center field gap for a double that scored two more runs for a 14-1 lead. Red Lake County had nine straight pinch-hitters the rest of the inning.  Marley Benoit singled to score two runs, Cain Cardinal had a bases-loaded walk to score a run as a few of the highlights in the rest of the inning, and the Rebels took a 19-1 lead.
Boe Nelson came into pitch the bottom of the inning, and he retired all three batters he faced as Red Lake County won the game 19-1 in five innings.

Red Lake County improves to 15-6 on the year and will play Ada-Borup-West at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 at Jim Karn Field in Crookston. Blackduck ends their season with a 14-8 record.
