Red Lake Falls beats the Freeze and LPA in Section tourney

The Red Lake Falls Eagle Softball team is the defending Section 8A Softball champion and started the defense of their title as they beat the Northern Freeze 14-0 in five innings in the first round of the Section 8A tournament at Red Lake Falls. The Eagles won an outstanding pitchers dual by beating Lake Park-Audubon 2-1 in the second round.

FIRST INNING-
The Freeze would go down in order in the top of the 1st inning with a flyout, and two strikeouts.
Red Lake Falls Shandi Nelson and Kylie Klipping hit back-to-back doubles to score a run. The next two batters were retired and the Eagles took a 1-0 lead.

SECOND INNING-
The Freeze would go down in order in the top of the 2nd inning with two pop-outs and a strikeout.
Red Lake Falls broke the game open in the bottom of the inning. Miley Cota walked, Ava Seeger singled, Ella Breiland bunted and advanced to third base on an error that allowed two runs to score for a 3-0 lead. Breiland scored on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead. Halle Seeger walked and the next two batters popped out. Kylie Klipping reached on an error that allowed a run to score before she advanced to third base. Klipping scored on a wild pitch for a 6-0 lead.

THIRD INNING –
The Northern Freeze ground out and struck out before a pair of singles. The next batter was retired to end the half-inning.
Grace Knutson started the bottom of the inning with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch. The next two batters grounded out before Breiland singled in a run before stealing second base. Halle Seeger singled to score a run for an 8-0 lead. Layna Shindler walked and Shandi Nelson reached on an error that allowed two runs to score for a 10-0 lead.

FOURTH INNING-
The Freeze struck out and flew out before a single. The next batter popped out.
Red Lake Falls grounded out, Grace Knutson walked, Cota singled and Ava Seeger walked to load the bases. Brieland knocked in a run with an infield single for an 11-0 lead. After a strikeout, Layna Shindler drew a walk to score another run. Nelson singled to score two runs for a 14-0 lead.

FIFTH INNING
The Freeze led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch. The next two batters were retired before a walk and a ground out to first base ended the game with Red Lake Falls winning 14-0 in five innings.

Red Lake Falls improves to 17-4 on the year and will play the winner of Lake Park-Audubon and Ada-Borup-West at 6:00 p.m. The Northern Freeze ends the season with a 2-17 record.

Red Lake Falls vs LPA/ABW winner

FIRST INNING-
LPA’s Megan Musolf was hit by a pitch with one out and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Musolf advanced to third base on another wild pitch and scored on a Kenna Mattson basehit to left field for a 1-0 lead. The next two batters struck out and the half-inning was over.
Red Lake Falls grounded out to the pitcher, popped out to the catcher and lined out to the first baseman and the Eagles were retired.

SECOND INNING-
Red Lake Falls’ Kylie Klipping was in a groove as she struck out all three batters she faced in the inning for five straight strikedouts in the game.
Red Lake Falls was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a pair of groundouts and a flyout to center field and LPA led 1-0 after two innings of play.

THIRD INNING-
LPA grounded out to first base before the next two batters struck out for a 1-2-3 inning.
Red Lake Falls grounded out for the first out of the inning. Ella Breiland bunted for a single and the throw to first went past the first baseman, but the right fielder was backing up the play and Breiland try to move to second base, but was thrown out for the second out of the inning. The next batter grounded out and the inning was over.

FOURTH INNING-
LPA was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two ground outs and a popout.
The first two Eagle batters were retired before Kylie Klipping singled to left field. Kayla Schafer reached on an error and Red Lake Falls had runners at first and second base with two outs. The next batter flew out to right field and the inning was over with Lake Park-Audubon leading 1-0.

FIFTH INNING-
Klipping continued to shutdown the Raider offense with three more strikeouts in the inning for a quick 1-2-3 inning.
Red Lake Falls’ Ava Seeger walked and stole second base and Ella Breiland had a slap hit up the middle for a single and more importantly, knocking in a run to tie the game 1-1. Rowan Kennet reached on a fielder’s choice to knock in another run to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. The next batter flew out before Nelson walked. The next batter

SIXTH INNING-
Alivia Jacobson started the inning with a walk. The next batter had a sacrifice bunt and was out at first base, but the runner advanced to second base on the play. The next batter struck out before a ground out and Red Lake Falls got out of the small jam.
Red Lake Falls wanted to add some insurance runs in the inning and Schafer walked and after an out Miley Cota hit a linedrive up the middle off the glove of the pitcher for a basehit. The next two batters were retired and the inning was over.

SEVENTH INNING-
Red Lake Falls’ Klipping continued her mastery in the circle as she struck out all three batters to win the game 2-1 to advance to the third round of the 8A Softball tournament.

Red Lake Falls improves to 18-4 on the year and will play East Polk at 4:00 p.m. in Fosston on Thursday. LPA drops to 11-6 on the year and will play in the consolation bracket on Thursday.
