RED LAKE FALLS VOLLEYBALL WINS CLOSE MATCH AGAINST CLIMAX-FISHER

The Red Lake Falls Eagles and Climax-Fisher Knights Volleyball teams played a back-and-forth match in the first round of the Section 8A tournament. The Eagles were down 14-12 in the fifth set, but they ultimately won the game by a score of 3-2 to advance to the second round.

FIRST SET
Red Lake Falls started the match with an ace from Kylie Klipping. The Knights tied it up at 1-1 with a kill from Peyton Hoffman. It was tied again at three, four, five, and seven before an Elizabeth Lytle kill started a 3-0 run for Red Lake Falls to make it 10-7. Climax-Fisher tied it up at 11 with a kill from Lucy Paulsrud, and a kill from Hoffman gave them a 12-11 lead. It was tied at 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. The Knights went on a 4-0 run to make it 22-18, and the Eagles were forced to take a time-out. Red Lake Falls won the following two points, including a kill from Shandi Nelson to make it 22-20. Climax-Fisher won two straight points to make it 24-20. Red Lakes Falls won two consecutive points, including a Peyton Hoffman kill, before the Knights won the set by a score of 25-22.

SECOND SET
Climax-Fisher started the second set on a 6-0 run, including two aces from Ella Paulsrud. Red Lake Falls began to chip away at the deficit, and when it was 11-6, the Eagles went on a 5-0 run to tie it up at 11. Halle Reitmeier got a kill to give the Knights a 13-11 lead, then Lytle got a kill for the Eagles to make it 13-13. It was tied at 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 before Red Lake Falls went on a 3-0 run, including a Reese Pahlen ace. Climax-Fisher got a point to make it 21-19 before Red Lake Falls finished on a 4-0 run to win the set and tie up the match 1-1.

THIRD SET
Red Lake Falls started the second set, winning three of the first four points, including a kill from Nelson. Climax-Fisher tied it up at six and seven before the Eagles went on a 3-0 run, featuring a Lytle kill. The Knights went on a 3-0 run of their own to tie it up at 11. It was tied at 12 before Climax-Fisher won three of the following four points, including a Hoffman block that made it 15-13.  Red Lake Falls tied it up at 16 before Climax-Fisher went on a 4-0 run, including an ace from Ava Larson. Lytle blasted a kill to make it 20-17 before the Knights won five of the last six points, including a kill from Larson, to win the set 25-18 to take a 2-1 match lead.

FOURTH SET
Climax-Fisher won the first two points, including an Ella Paulsrud ace. Red Lake Falls tied it up at two with a pair of kills from Nelson and Jordan Wieland. It was tied again at 4-4 before the Eagles went on a 3-0 run with a pair of kills from Nelson to give the Eagles a 7-4 lead. The Knights got two points before Red Lake Falls went on a 7-0 run, including a Makenna Hoefer ace to give the Eagles a 14-6 lead. Hoffman got a kill to end the run, and it was back and forth for the following few points. Lytle got a kill to make it 16-9 and another to make it 18-10. Hoffman got a kill to make it 19-12 before Nelson and Quinnlyn Kenfield got a pair of kills to make it 21-12. Red Lake Falls went on a 3-0 run, including two kills from Lytle and a kill from Nelson to make it 24-13. Climax-Fisher won a point before a Lytle kill won the set for the Eagles 2-14, tying the match up at 2-2.

FIFTH SET
The fifth set was tied at one, two, three, and four before Hoffman and Sarah Thoreson got kills to make it 6-4 Knights. Red Lake Falls responded with a 5-0 run that featured two kills from Lytle to make it 9-6 Eagles. A serving error ended the run, but The Knights had a net violation right after. Both teams made attacking errors, and it was 11-7 Eagles. Climax-Fisher went on a 3-0 run, including an ace from Reitmeier and a kill from Lucy Paulsrud to make it 11-10. Lytle got a kill to end the run before Paulsrud got a kill to start a 4-0 run. It was 14-12 Knights, and Nelson got a block to keep the Eagles alive. Red Lake Falls tied it up at 14-14, but they had four hits on the next point, and Climax-Fisher took the lead 15-14. The Knights committed a net violation to tie it up at 15-15. Kenfield got an ace to make it 16-1 Eagles before Nelson had a monster kill to win the fifth set 17-15 and the match for Red Lake Falls.

Red Lake Falls improves to 7-20 and takes on BGMR in the second round of the Section 8A tournament on Thursday. Climax-Fisher finishes their season at 13-14.
