RV and Automobile Storage Facility at 0 College Avenue Approved by Planning Commission.

The Crookston Planning Commission Meeting took place Tuesday at City Hall. After the September minutes were approved and the Commission tabled the Election of Officers due to not having enough Committee members on hand, they moved on to item three on the agenda. Item three was an RV and Automobile Storage Facility brought back to the Committee for recommendation. This item was previously tabled as the property owners could not attend the September Planning Commission Meeting.

The Conditional Use Permit Request for RV and Vehicle Storage at 0 College Ave in Crookston.  The Planning Commission was asked to review and comment on the address and whether to allow the storage of RVs or vehicles on the open lots. Darrel and Diane LaCoursiere are the property owners and applicants for this Conditional Use Permit. The property had previously been an automobile junkyard. The property is in an I-2 Light Industrial Zoning District, with land north of this location being in an IN Institutional Zone District. The land immediately to the east, west, and south is the same 1-2 Light Industrial Zoning District. To the immediate northeast is the Ottertail Office & Service Center; to the east is the Crookston Ambulance garage. Further north is the Altru Clinic, and to the northeast is Riverview Hospital for reference.

Greg Hefta, Building Official, explains that the Planning Commission approved the request for conditional use. “Darrel and Diane LaCoursiere were at the table and explained they just want RV storage and automobile-type storage for their land usage so they can get a little extra income and use it per our ordinances,” said Hefta. “It fits in directly with I-2, Light Industrial, so the Planning Commission said that they agreed with that, and it should have no reason not to have a conditional use associated with that usage.”

With the recommendation from the Planning Commission, the LaCoursieres will next go before City Council Hefta says. “It’s going to City Council for the next meeting to get their approval if they decide to do so.”
