SACRED HEART BASEBALL BEATS ADA-BORUP-WEST TO ADVANCE TO STATE

The Sacred Heart Eagles Baseball team used a three-run fourth inning, including a two-run home run to beat the scrappy  Ada-Borup-West Cougars in the Section 8A Championship in Thief River Falls.

FIRST INNING –
In the top of the inning, Ada-Borup-West led off with a Beau Fetting walk.  After a fielder’s choice to get an out at second base, Oliver Kritzberger walked and runners were at first and second base with one out.  Eagle pitcher, Sam Gapp retired the next two batters to get out of the inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Cullen Rohrich led off with a walk and stole second base, but he was stranded there as the next three batters were retired and it was scoreless after one inning of play.

SECOND INNING –
Ada-Borup-West had another threat in the top of the second inning when Baron Odden singled and was caught stealing. Ryan Hoven singled, but the next two batters were retired.
Sacred Heart tried to get a two-out rally going in the bottom of the inning when Isaac Zavoral and Breck Bloom had the first two hits of the game for the Eagles before the next batter struck out and the teams were still scoreless after two innings.

THIRD INNING –
Ada-Borup-West scored the first run of the game in the inning.  Beau Jorgenson singled with one out.  After a strikeout, Lance Krtizberger walked and both runners advanced on a wild pitch.  Jorgenson’s courtesy runner came into score on another wild pitch for a 1-0.

FOURTH INNING –
Sam Gapp started to get locked in as he retired Ada-Borup-West in 1-2-3 fashion.
Sacred Heart took that momentum to the offensive side of the game as Nick Brundin led off with a single, advanced to second on an error, and moved over to third base on a wild pitch.  After a strike out, Isaac Zavoral walked and stole second base.  With runners at second and third base, Breck Bloom hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.  Freshman catcher and number nine batter David Larson launched a pitch over the leftfield fence for a two-run home run giving Sacred Heart a 3-1 lead.  The home run was the first of Larson’s young varsity career.

FIFTH INNING –
Sacred Heart had runners at second and third with two outs, but the next batter struck out and the Eagles led 3-1 after five innings.

SIXTH INNING –
Ada-Borup-West started a two-out rally with a Ryan Hoven single.  Brennen Fetting followed with a single and with runners at first and third base, Trenton Sip went the opposite way for an rbi single to bring the Cougars within a 3-2 deficit.
Sacred Heart was retired in order in the bottom of the inning.

SEVENTH INNING –
Ethan Arntson retired the first two batters with two tremendous plays at third base by Parker Erickson in the top of the inning, but Ada-Borup-West’s Austin McCraven singled and the tying run was at first base. Arnston retired the next batter on a pop-out to the shortstop and Sacred Heart won 3-2 to advance to the State Class A Baseball tournament in St. Cloud on Tuesday.

Sacred Heart will improve to 21-3 on the year.  The coaches seeding meeting for the top five seeds will be held on Saturday and when we find out the seeds and bracket we will post it on KROXAM.com.  KROX will carry all the Sacred Heart State baseball games next week.  Ada-Borup-West ends the season with a 16-5 record.
