SACRED HEART BASEBALL BEATS RED LAKE COUNTY

The Sacred Heart Eagles scored four runs in the first three innings and had a solid pitching performance from Parker Erickson to beat the Red Lake County Rebels 4-1 in a Section 8A matchup at the Les Drechsel Athletic Field in Red Lake Falls.

FIRST INNING
Sacred Heart go things going in the top of the first inning. After a strikeout, Josiah Sundby reached on a walk. Parker Erickson reached on an error, and David Larson had an infield single to load the bases. Elliot Arntson hit into a fielder’s choice where Red Lake County retired Sundby at home plate for the second out of the inning. Erickson scored the first run of the game on a stolen base for a 1-0 lead.
Red Lake County’s Ben Gullingsrud led the bottom of the inning off with a walk. He advanced to second on a Will Gieseke ground out and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Brock Seeger grounded out to shortstop, but Gullingsrud scored to tie the game at 1-1.

SECOND INNING
Sacred Heart kept the offense going in the second inning with a leadoff double from Jake Satterlund. Isaac Sundby reached on an error, and a run was scored on the play. Mike Gapp walked before Ben Wharam hit a fly to center field to score Sundby to give Sacred Heart a 3-1 lead.
Red Lake County’s Colin Taggart singled with one out and stole second base before the next two batters struck out.

THIRD INNING
Sacred Heart’s Erickson singled to lead off the inning but tried to go for a double. A great play and throw from Red Lake County’s Gullinsgrud was on the money, and they got Erickson at second base. David Larson followed with a walk before Arntson doubled, and there were runners at second and third base. Liam Larson hit a fly to deep center field to score a run, and Sacred Heart took a 4-1 lead.
Red Lake County’s Gullingsrud led off the bottom of the inning with a bunt single. The next Rebel batter struck out before Brock Seeger walked and the next two batters were retired.

FOURTH INNING
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion to start the inning. Red Lake County’s Brock Knott was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the inning. The next batter flew out before Gunnar Halverson struck out, but reached on a wild pitch. Halverson stole second base before the next two batters were retired.

FIFTH INNING
Sacred Heart had a great start to the inning when Josiah Sundby singled, and Erickson and David Larson walked to load the bases with nobody out. The next batter reached on a fielder’s choice, but Red Lake County got the out at home. The next batter flew out to the first baseman, and the next batter struck out as the Rebels got out of a huge jam.
In the bottom of the inning, Gieseke singled but was caught stealing for the first out. The next batter lined out to first base before Audette walked. The next batter struck out to end the inning.

SIXTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Wharam tried to start a two-out rally with a single. Josiah Sundby walked, and Parker Erickson singled to load the bases. The next batter struck out, and the score remained 4-1.
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion, and Sacred Heart took a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning.

SEVENTH INNING
Elliot Arntson walked before the next three batters were retired. Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion, and Sacred Heart won the game 4-1.

Sacred Heart improves to 6-2 on the year. Red Lake County drops to 2-3 on the year.
