The Sacred Heart Eagles hosted the Red Lake Falls Eagle Volleyball team in a Section 8A matchup in East Grand Forks. The first two sets were highly competitive, but Sacred Heart used their offensive firepower to win the match 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-9).
FIRST SET–
The first set began back and forth, tied at one, two, three, and four. Sacred Heart went on a 5-0 run, including two kills from Alexis Lawrence and an ace from Lydia Riskey. It was back and forth for the following points before Red Lake Falls went on a 3-0 run to tie it at 9-9. Sacred Heart responded with a 4-0 run that was ended by an Elizabeth Lytle block. A few points later, Sacred Heart’s Riskey got a kill, Red Lake Fall’s Shandi Nelson got a kill, and Riskey got another kill to make it 17-12. It was back and forth for the following few points, including Red Lake Falls’ Elizabeth Lytle and Sacred Heart’s Lawrence trading kills. Red Lake Falls’ Jordan Wieland got a kill to make it 21-15 before Sacred Heart went on a 3-0 run to make it set point. Red Lake Falls won two more points, including a Lytle kill, but Sacred Heart won the set with a Lawrence kill, and they took a 1-0 lead.
SECOND SET
Sacred Heart took a 1-0 lead before Red Lake Falls went on a 3-0 run. Sacred Heart’s Riskey and Red Lake Falls’ Nelson traded kills before Sacred Heart went on a 5-0 run. Pahlen got a kill to end the run, and the two teams traded aces. A Lytle kill kick started a 3-0 run for Red Lake Falls that tied the set up at 9-9. It was tied at 10 and 11 before Sacred Heart went on a 6-0 run with two aces from Finley Horken and a kill from Reese Chwialkowski. Red Lake Falls won the following two points before Sacred Heart, including an Elle Werner ace, won the next three. Red Lake Falls stopped the run with a kill from Kayla Schafer, and Red Lake Falls continued a 3-0 run off of a Nelson kill. Sacred Heart went on a 4-0 run to make it 23-15. The last few points went back and forth before Sacred Heart won the set 25-17 to win the second set and take a 2-0 lead.
THIRD SET
The third set began with ties of one, two, and three before Sacred Heart went on a 10-0 run. Lytle ended the run with a kill, and the following few points were back and forth. Sacred Heart went on a 4-0 run with kills from Reese Chwialkoski and Lawrence. Lytle got a kill to end the run, but two points later, Sacred Heart began a 3-0 run. Sacred Heart won five of the last seven points, including three kills from Riskey to take the 25-9 set victory and the match victory 3-0.
Sacred Heart improves to 10-3 on the year and takes on Warren-Alvarado-Oslo. Red Lake Falls falls to 3-11 and takes on Bagder-Greenbush-Middle River.
