Sacred Heart Softball sweeps West Marshall in home doubleheader

The Sacred Heart Eagle Softball had no problems with the West Marshall Fusion, as they took them down 12-0 and then 21-5 in a doubleheader played in EGF on Monday evening.

Game 1

FIRST INNING-
West Marshall was set down in order in the top of the first, as Blake Brockpahler struck out the side.
Sacred Heart got off to a wonderful start to the bottom of the inning, starting with five straight hits. Megan Weiss singled, then Izzy Cwikla tripled in a run, followed by back-to-back doubles from Brockpahler and Greta Effhauser to make it 3-0. Lily Mueller would then single over the second baseman to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Haley Olson would then bounce back for the Fusion, striking out the next three batters to end the inning with no further damage.

SECOND INNING-
West Marshall did get their first hit of the game with one out on a single from Rachel Wimpfheimer, but Brockpahler got three more strikeouts to quickly quash any threat from the Fusion.
Leah Sundby led off the bottom of the frame with a bunt base hit, and after an errant throw, was able to make it all the way around to give Sacred Heart a 5-0 lead. Then, with one out, Izzy Cwikla got her second hit with a single. She would then score with two outs on an RBI double from Greta Effhauser, making it 6-0 Eagles at the end of the inning.

THIRD INNING –
Brockpahler continued to dominate, striking out the side again in the top of the third.
Sacred Heart got a leadoff hit from Teegyn Johnson, but she was out on a force play the very next pitch. Haley Olson would then get a strikeout and a popout to put up her first zero of the game against the Eagles’ offense.

FOURTH INNING-
The Fusion got off to their best start to an inning all day, with a leadoff walk from Olivia Winge followed by a single from Taylor Wentz to put two runners on. However, Brockpahler was not phased, as she would strikeout the next three batters to end the inning, putting her at 12 for the game.
The fourth inning became the most productive for the Eagles, as they scored six runs in the frame. They got an RBI triple from Brockpahler, a two-run double from Mueller, an RBI single from Teegyn Johnson and a two-run single from Megan Weiss, giving Sacred Heart a 12-0 lead headed into the fifth inning.

FIFTH INNING-

FIRST INNING-
West Marshall got off to a far superior start to game two against Jensen Stinar. A leadoff walk started the rally, then after a popout, Taylor Wentz, Josie Johnston and Briana Widner all hit singles, making it 2-0 Fusion. After that, a single and another walk would chase Stinar out of the circle, and Brockpahler would re-enter, getting a strikeout to end the frame.
The Eagles were able to respond very quickly, with the first four batters reaching base. Weiss walked, and Izzy Cwikla hit a double to drive her in, cutting the score to 3-1. Cwikla would then score on a wild pitch, and after Blake Brockpahler walked and stole second, Greta Effhauser drove her in to tie the game at three. Macey Boe would then lock in, getting a strikeout and getting two pop-ups to end the inning with the score tied at three.

SECOND INNING-
West Marshall was retired in order in the second inning on two strikeouts and a groundout.

Izzy Cwikla would then strike out, but heads-up baserunning from Weiss allowed her to score to make it 6-3. The offense wouldn’t stop, as the Eagles continued to get baserunners and scoring opportunities. Greta Effhauser doubled in a run to make it 7-3, and Mueller ended the rally with an RBI double of her own, making it 8-3 Eagles as the second inning ended.

THIRD INNING-
The Fusion got the leadoff runner on in the third inning with Josie Johnston getting hit by a pitch. She would then steal second and third to put herself in prime scoring position, but Brockpahler would strike out the next three batters to keep the Fusion off the scoreboard in the inning
