Sacred Heart Softball falls to BGMR, beats Bagley

The Sacred Heart Eagle Softball team was beaten by the Badger/Greenbush-Middle River Gators 16-2 in six innings before bouncing back to beat the Bagley Flyers 10-0 in 5 innings in the Section 8A Softball tournament in Greenbush.

FIRST INNING-
BGMR’s Kenzie Dahl started the game with a single to left field. After an out, Teagen Lansdrud reached on an error before Quinn Vacura hit a line drive to right field for a double to score two runs and the Gators led 2-0.
Sacred Heart’s Megan Weiss laid down a bunt for a single to start the bottom of the inning. The next three batters were retired and the Eagle threat was over.

SECOND INNING-
BGMR’s Kieran Nelson blasted a fly ball over the centerfield fence to lead off the inning for a 3-0 lead. The next batter was retired before Dahl reached on an error. Jaci Hanson grounded out and another run scored on the play to give the Gators a 4-0 lead.
Sacred Heart’s Sophia Modeen walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, Lexi Lawrence reached on a fielder’s choice, and Avery Holthaus doubled to score a run to get within a 4-1 deficit.

THIRD INNING –
The first two Gator batters were retired before Kailey Hanson was hit by a pitch. Sierra Landsrud singled before the next batter grounded out to retire BGMR.
Lily Mueller singled with one out and Jillian Pulkrabek singled to center field. The Gator fielder overran the ball and allowed a run to score and the Eagles trailed
4-2.

FOURTH INNING-
BGMR’s Dahl led off the inning with a single and a stolen base before she scored on a Landsrud single for a 5-2 lead.
Sacred Heart’s Lexi Lawrence walked with one out before the next two batters were retired.

FIFTH INNING-
BGMR’s Sara Pulk led off with a single, Kailey Hanson reached on an error. After a strikeout, Nelson doubled to score two runs for a 7-2 lead. Washington singled, Dahl was hit by a pitch and Hanson doubled to score three runs for a 10-2 lead. After an out, Vacura reached on an error that allowed a run to score. Pulk was hit by a pitch before a strikeout and the half-inning was over.
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two ground outs and a line drive out.

SIXTH INNING-
BGMR’s Sadie Landsrud led off with a walk and after a ground out, a run scored on a passed ball before Washington and Dahl singled to score another run. Hanson doubled to score a run and another run scored on an error for a 15-2 lead. Vacura singled before another run scored on a ground out for a 16-2 lead.
Sacred Heart’s first two batters were retired before an Izzy Cwikla single and a Lawrence walk. The next batter grounded out and the game was over with BGMR winning 16-2.

BGMR improves to 17-6 and will play East Polk for the rights to play in the Section 8A championship on Tuesday. Sacred Heart drops to 14-7 on the year and will play Bagley in a loser-out game.

Sacred Heart vs Bagley (loser out game)

FIRST INNING-
Bagley was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with three groundouts.
Sacred Heart’s Jillian Pulkrabek singled with two outs, but the next batter was retired and the inning was over.

SECOND INNING-
Bagley was retired in 1-2-3 fashion as Sacred Heart’s Pulkrabek was dominant in the circle and the defense was solid behind her.
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a flyout.

THIRD INNING-
Bagley reached on an error before a double play and the next batter popped out.
Avery Holthaus led off with a single, Leah Sundby reached on an error. A run scored on a wild pitch and Megan Weiss walked. After a strikeout, Pulkrabek reached on a fielder’s choice before Lilly Mueller knocked in a run on a ground out. Sophia Modeen hit a line drive to the gap to score two runs. Modeen would later score on an error for a 5-0 lead.

FOURTH INNING-
Bagley’s Emme Ekre singled with one out and Mak Hoie reached on a fielder’s choice. Emme Ekre was out on an interference call for the second out of the inning and the next batter flew out.
Sacred Heart’s Avery Holthaus walked and after an out, Weiss and Audrey Anderson singled. Pulkrabek reached on an error that allowed a run to score before Mueller singled in two runs for an 8-0 lead. After an out, Izzy Cwikla doubled to score two more runs for a 10-0 lead.

FIFTH INNING –
Sacred Heart brought in Blake Brockpahler to pitch and she retired Bagley in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a flyout and Sacred Heart won the game 10-0 in five innings.

Sacred Heart improves to 15-7 on the year and will play Red Lake Falls in a loser-out game on Tuesday in Fosston at 4:00 p.m.
