SACRED HEART USES BIG SECOND HALF TO GET 66-50 VICTORY OVER STEPHEN-ARGYLE

The Stephen-Argyle Girls Basketball team couldn’t overcome a 40-point second half by the Sacred Heart Eagles, as Sacred Heart won 66-50 at Stephen-Argyle, in Stephen. 

FIRST HALF-
Emily Marquis scored the game’s opening basket for Stephen-Argyle to give them an early lead. Izzy Cwikla responded for Sacred Heart, scoring five straight points for the Eagles to tie things up at seven. Sacred Heart would use a 10-0 run to take the lead at 12-7. Finley Horken for Sacred Heart drove to the basket and flipped her shot off the glass to give the Eagles a 16-11 lead. Nora Osowski would answer as she stepped through the Eagles’ defense to hit a close shot to pull Stephen-Argyle within one at 16-15. Oswoski would hit a pair of free throws, the only Storm free throws of the first half, to give Stephen-Argyle a 19-18 lead. Right before the end of the half, Peyton Schroeder came off the Sacred Heart bench and got a close basket underneath to give the Eagles a 26-25 halftime lead. 

SECOND HALF –
In the second half, Sacred Heart would begin the game on an 11-0 run with the help of Lydia Rickey, who got back-to-back baskets, including an and one. Isabel Vonesh knocked down a three to give Sacred Heart a 42-27 lead. Osowski was able to help cut the Sacred Heart lead down to 46-37 with 9:30 left in the half by knocking down a three for the Storm. Izzy Cwikla got another close-ranged basket for the Eagles to give them a 52-37 lead, forcing Stephen-Argyle to call a timeout. Vonesh hit another three for Sacred Heart, her third three of the game to give the Eagles a 55-41 lead. With a few minutes left, Lydia Riskey cut to the basket and got her lay-up to fall. Riskey scored 13 of her 14 points in the second half. Sacred Heart would keep their lead over Stephen-Argyle above double digits as time expired. The Eagles would pick up a 66-50 road win. 

 

Sacred Heart improves to 13-1 on the season and will take on Mahnomen/Waubun on Thursday. Stephen-Argyle drops to 4-5 on the season and will host Fertile-Beltrami tomorrow night.
