Scooter’s Coffee on Track to Open Before Christmas

If you have driven through downtown Crookston, you have noticed the construction of a new coffee shop in town. John and Angie Robertson are bringing Scooter’s Coffee to Crookston. “When we were looking into Coffee Franchises, Scooter’s core values really jumped out at us,” said John. “Those core values are integrity, love, humility, and courage. That just really resonated with us.”

Angie talked a little about Scooter’s involvement in the community, “They are very community support orientated, so there are a lot of opportunities to give back.”  The Crookston location is not the only Scooter’s the Robertsons own; they also own a location in Grand Forks. “We recently did a day of giving there, where we gave back a percentage to the community, and we are just looking forward to bringing that to Crookston also.”

When asked if everything was going as planned the Robertson’s sounded very happy with the progress. “Ever since we have started the construction phase of the process it has been going really smooth,” said John.  “The city has been great to work with. Corky Reynolds has been amazing to work with, and I know that he has since moved on, but I really appreciated working with him.” Corky Reynolds retired as City Administrator this summer but was a big part of Scooters getting off to a good start, says John.

The Robertsons, along with their partners for this Scooter’s location, Keith, an Army Veteran, and Caroline Homstad, have a planned soft opening for December 19. As far as hours of operation, they said they will start with 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. seven days a week and see how that works.

Hiring for the location has not started as of yet.  The Robertson’s did say they have a Store Manager in place already and plan to hire about 15-20 part-time employees.  Angie explained a little bit about how to apply once they are ready to start hiring. “When we do start hiring, usually we do online applications, so ScootersCoffee.com would be the place to look, and then go under the hiring tab and look for Crookston, MN.”

The Robertson’s wanted to make sure to point out that they are aware that not everyone drinks coffee. “We know that coffee is part of the name, and that’s one of our big sellers, but there are lots of other items that we do have, too, for those who don’t really just go for coffee,” explained Angie. Scooter’s Coffee also offers smoothies, energy drink infusions, hot chocolate, sandwiches, pastries, and more.

It’s hard to miss the process of bringing Scooter’s Coffee to reality.  The site changes there a little bit every day.  Scooter’s Coffee is set to open in mid-December, just ahead of the holidays.
