SPORTS FEEVER – March 24, 2022

Welcome to the world-famous Sports Feever column.  Well…..that is what my mom says anyway.

KROX Radio is covering the Minnesota State Boys Basketball tournament for the 59th year this year.  Jerry Dahlberg, Frank Fee, and myself have combined to cover all 59 of those with several other announcers mixed in.  Pretty impressive run for KROX.

Congratulations to the Section 8AA Girls Basketball Champion Fergus Falls Otters who finished state runner-up.  Another great showing for Section 8AA.

2016 – Roseau finished 3rd place
2017 – Roseau was state champ
2018 – Roseau finished runner-up
2019 – Roseau finished third place
2020 – Pelican Rapids was going to play in the consolation championship before Covid canceled the game.
2021 – Pelican Rapids lost in the first round
2022- Fergus Falls were runners-up

It was good to see Paul Bittner back in the lineup for Düsseldorf EG after missing several weeks with a broken jaw.  Dusseldorf won 3-0 and Paul had two goals in the win!

The Minnesota State Youth hockey tournaments were held last weekend and here is how Section 8A teams did – 

12U B – Crookston beat Moose Lake 2-1 in OT, Lost to Apple Valley/Burnsville/Eastiew 4-2, and lost to Alexandria 7-4 to finish fourth.

PeeWee B – Red Lake Falls beat Cloquet 3-1, lost to Edina Green 7-1, and beat Hallock 4-2 to finish 3rd.  Hallock beat Blaine 6-3, lost to Edina White 4-2, and lost to Red Lake Falls 4-2 to finish fourth.

PeeWee A – East Grand Forks beat Cloquet 7-1, beat Roseville 7-4, beat Warroad 5-0.  Warroad beat Hibbing/Chisholm 4-3, beat Bloomington Jefferson 4-1, lost to EGF 5-0 to finish second. 

Bantam A – East Grand Forks beat Hibbing-Chisholm 8-2, beat Chaska 7-0, beat Northern Lakes 7-0.

Philip Kujawa class of 2004 from Crookston High School.  He is an Army recruiter in Rochester.
