Minnesota State Football first round games are being played across the state this week. There are several area teams competing in the tournament.
NINE-PLAYER –
The Fertile-Beltrami Falcon Football team is making its fourth straight State Football appearance and looking to advance to the semi-finals for the fourth straight season. Fertile-Beltrami will take on the Cromwell-Wright Cardinals at Moorhead High School at 7:00 p.m. KROX will broadcast the game on the radio with a pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
Fertile-Beltrami is 10-0 on the year and coming off a 52-15 victory over the Fosston Greyhounds in the section championship. Cromwell-Wright is 10-1 on the year and coming off a 20-14 victory over #1 ranked Nevis in the Section 5 9-Player championship. Cromwell-Wright lost to Nevis on September 27 by a 48-8 score!!
Cromwell-Wright is obviously pretty good, and they have seven seniors. Their biggest kid is 5’10, 255 pounds, with the next kid coming in at 5’10, 234 pounds. They only have three kids over 200 pounds, so they are huge by any means and will be a good size match-up for the Falcons.
Fertile-Beltrami is led by senior running back Isaiah Wright has carried the ball 120 times for 1,746 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also has 12 receptions for 175 yards and two touchdowns on the season. They also have Jonah Harstad, who has run for 1,126 yards and 14 touchdowns on 98 carries. They have a great duo, and the offensive line is a big reason why they have run for so many yards.
The Stephen-Argyle Storm will play the Mountain Iron-Buhl Rangers in the first round of the State 9-Person playoffs at Grand Rapids on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. KROX will stream the game on YouTube (audio only) with the RiverView Health pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
Stephen-Argyle only has two seniors on the team, but senior runningback Blaine Smith ran for almost 300 yards in the section championship and was stellar on defense to lead the Storm. Darby Benitt is the other senior, and he was outstanding on both sides of the ball in the championship game.
Stephen-Argyl is really playing great football with impressive wins over two rivals. They beat Kittson County Central in the semi-finals 44-22 after beating them 20-18 in the regular season. They beat Warren-A-O 42-14 after beating the Ponies by the same 20-18 score in the regular season. The Storm is looking really good right now. Blaine Smith and Raydon Woinarowicz were stellar offensively. The offense line was impressive and the defense line was great, especially in the second half.
Mountain Iron-Buhl is 11-0 on the year and averages 67.5 points per game while only giving up 8 points per game. The Ranger quarterback, Micaden Clines has passed for 1,387 yards and 22 touchdowns and has run the ball for 1,088 yards and 21 touchdowns. Slowing him down will be the key!

CLASS A –
The Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds are back at state for the fourth straight year. They were 10-0 on the year and had an impressive showing in the Section 8A Championship game with a 36-8 victory. Mahnomen/Waubun doesn’t have a super star, but they are one of the best well-oiled machines I have seen. All 11 players on the field are studs and they just go about their business and each one can make a huge play. They are a great all-around team.
They get ready to take on Deer River who is 9-1 on the year. They lost to Barnum 39-13 in the regular season and beat Mille Lacs 8-6 in the Section 7A championship game. Mahnomen/Waubun received the second seed in the north and Deer River is the #3 seed. The teams will play on Friday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Becker High School!!!!!
CLASS AA –
The Barnesville Trojans are the Section 8AA representative once again. They are 11-0 on the year and received the #2 seed in the north!!!! So they will play the Section 6AA Champion Staples-Motley Cardinals who are 10-0 on the year. Barnesville beat Hawley 46-22 in the Section 8AA Championship game while Staples-Motley beat Osakis 36-30 in the 6AA Championship. Staples Motley beat Frazee in week one 47-7. Barnesville beat Frazee in the regular season (week 8) and won 44-12, then beat Frazee 58-6 in the section semi-finals. Barnesville and Staples-Motley will play Thursday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Cloud Tech High School.
CLASS AAA –
The Section 8AAA Champion Fergus Falls Otters received the top seed in the north and will play the #4 seed Albany! You know the north is stacked when you have a team like Albany as your 4th seed. Fergus Falls beat East Grand Forks 30-0 in the 8AAA semifinals and beat DGF 42-30 in the championship. Albany comes out of Section 6AAA and beat Minnewaska Area 29-21 in the championship. The teams play on Friday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. at Alexandria High School.

JOKES
A man walks into an open Hollywood audition. He gets inside and begins to fill out his audition form, rehearse his monologue, and stand in line. After a while, he gets into the audition room and hands the casting director his audition form. He takes his spot on stage and is about to launch into his monologue when he hears rowdy laughing coming from the casting director.
He asks, “What’s going on?”
Through tears of laughter, the casting director asks him, “Is this your real name, Penis Car Lesbian??”
The man responds, “Yes, I know it is a silly name, but please try to ignore that. My parents were drunk when they named me and just chose three silly words.”
The casting director stops laughing and tells the man, “I’m sorry, but you have to change your name if you want to make it big in Hollywood.
The man gets upset and storms out of the audition.
The casting director shrugs and calls out the next person.
10 years later, the director receives a 100,000 dollar check and a letter.
Puzzled over who would send him such a thing, he opens up the letter and reads it:
“Dear sir,
While you may not remember me, I came to an audition 10 years ago. There you told me that I would never make it big if I didn’t change my name from Penis Car Lesbian. After I left, I realized you were right and changed my name. However, I was too ashamed to return back to you, so I found other auditions. But your advice really helped, and I got a lot of big acting roles. As you were the first one to truly help me, I decided to send you a little check.
Sincerely,
Dick Van Dyke”

A man received the following text from his neighbor:
I am so sorry Bob. I’ve been riddled with guilt, and I have to confess. I have been tapping your wife, day and night when you’re not around. In fact, more than you. I’m not getting any at home, but that’s no excuse. I can no longer live with the guilt and I hope you will accept my sincerest apology with my promise that it won’t happen again.
The man, anguished and betrayed, went into his bedroom and had a long, drawn-out fight with his wife about her infidelity.
A few moments later, a second text came in:
Correction: I meant “wifi”, not “wife”.

My neighbor. She’s single. She’s shapely & beautiful and she lives right across the street.
I watched her as she got home from work this evening. I was surprised when she walked across the street, up my driveway and knocked on my door.
I opened the door, she looked at me and said, ”I just got home, and I have this strong urge to have a good time, get drunk, and have fun tonight. Are you doing anything?”
I quickly replied, “Nope, I’m free!”
“Great” she said. ”Can you watch my dog?”
