STEPHEN-ARGYLE’S SWANSON LEADS STORM OVER PIRATE GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Stephen-Argyle Storm’s Regan Swanson scored 27 points to lead her team to a 63-52 victory over the Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team in a game played at the Crookston High School Gymnasium. 

FIRST HALF-
Crookston had a great start to the game as they scored the first eight points with three-pointers from Katelyn Christensen and Naomi Johnson and a basket from Chloe Boll. Crookston led 15-10 with 9:07 left in the half when Stephen-Argyle went on a 10-0 run with six points from Ayla Woinarowicz and four points from Liv Efta for a 20-15 lead.  Crookston’s Maddie Bruggeman scored a basket and Crookston trailed 25-23 with 3:21 left in the half. Stephen-Argyle had a strong finish to the half as they outscored the Pirates 9-2 with a three-pointer from Isabelle Westman and after a Pirate basket the Storm had two points apiece from Efta, Britni Kroll, and Regan Swanson for a 34-25 lead going into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Stephen-Argyle started the second half with a Regan Swanson three-pointer for a 37-25 lead. Crookston responded with a Naomi Johnson three-pointer, an Emma Gunderson basket, and a Bruggeman three-point play to get within a 37-33 deficit just shy of five minutes into the half. Stephen-Argyle’s Swanson took over with five straight points, followed by a Woinarowicz three-point play for a 45-33 lead. Crookston’s Bruggeman stopped the run with a basket, and after a Storm free throw, Bruggeman added another basket, and Crookston trailed 46-37.
Stephen-Argyle responded with a 9-2 run for a 55-39 lead.  Crookston’s Grace Boll stopped the run with a long three-pointer only to have the Storm’s Swanson answer with another basket. After two Bruggeman free throws, Stephen-Argyle’s Swanson made a three-pointer for a 60-44 lead. Crookston outscored the Storm 8-3 in the final three minutes of the game, but Stephen-Argyle held on for a 63-52 victory.
Stephen-Argyle was led by Swanson’s 27 points, and Crookston was led by Bruggeman’s career-high 15 points and five rebounds.

Crookston drops to 3-19 on the year and will travel to Ada-Borup-West on Tuesday. Stephen-Argyle improves to 7-10 on the year.
