Susan Marie Tollefson Hollenbeck – Obit

Susan Marie Tollefson Hollenbeck of Aurora, Colorado, passed away, at the age of 59, on Monday morning  August 29, 2022, with her husband at her side.

Susan was born on July 1, 1963, in Crookston, Minnesota.  She attended public grade school and graduated from high school at Mount St Benedict in Crookston.  During her junior and senior years, she earned a number of awards participating in speech tournaments.  After high school graduation, she attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis.

Growing up, Sue enjoyed riding and showing her three appaloosa horses.  She was active in the local horse club, Agassiz Riders.   One of her many trophies was awarded for accumulating the most points in game and pleasure events.  In 1981, she was crowned Agassiz Riders queen.

On June 9, 2001, Susan was married to James Hollenbeck. in Denver, Colorado.  Susan took pride in cooking for her husband, taking care of her many house plants and her two fury friends.  Most of all, she enjoyed gifting family and friends.  She is described as a bright light, a sweet soul, and a dear friend with an infectious laugh.

Susan is survived by her husband, James.   Also surviving are her parents, Sherman and Joanne and brothers, Jeffrey (Michelle) and Chris (Jennifer).  She is also survived by her two nieces, Crystal and Emery and two nephews, Wyatt and Jamis,  along with her aunts and uncles, William and Doris Janssen and Larry and Bonny Landwehr, and several cousins.

Preceding her in death were her grand parents Emery and Lenore Palmer and Richard and Gertie Tollefson,  her step-grandfather, Edward Dulski, and her aunt and uncle, Larry and JoAnn Palmer.

On September 8, a Mass will be celebrated at St Michael’s Catholic Church, Aurora, Colorado.
