STEPHEN-ARGYLE VOLLEYBALL PICKS UP FIRST WIN IN FOUR SETS

The Stephen-Argyle Storm Volleyball team traveled to Erskine to take on Win-E-Mac, and after two close sets, come back to blow out the Patriots in the last two sets, winning 25-21, 23-25, 25-10, 25-5.

First Set
Win-E-Mac came out in the first set taking advantage of Stephen-Arygle’s unforced errors. The Patriots went on a early run after two serving errors by the Storm. It looked to be Win-E-Mac’s set, as they rattled off a 4-0 run. That was before Emily Marquis started catching fire. The Storm’s middle hitter was getting involved with some big rally ending kills, to help them comeback with their own 8-1 run. Both teams were tied at 19-19 before Stephen Argyle would take over and create the separation to get the win 25-21 for the opening set.

Second Set
The Second Set was another back and forth affair. Both teams were trying to gain enough momentum to get a comfortable lead, but neither could string together big enough runs. Win-E-Mac would jump out to an early 8-4 lead, thanks to some great serving. Nadelly Neubert and Izabelle Ostenaa both would have multiple aces in this set, allowing the Patriots to gain some momentum. The Storm wouldn’t let Win-E-Mac get too big of a lead, as Faith Swanson had some some success on the outside to keep things close. The lead was never larger than three going into the final five points of the set. But some unforced errors would let Win-E-Mac take the second set 25-23, tying the match at one set a piece.

Third Set
The third set saw Stephen-Argyle find it’s game. The Storm went up 9-2, thanks to Emily Marquis having a strong start to her set in the middle hitter position. Marquis and setter Regan Swanson would find their chemistry in this set, leading the Storm to a big lead. Win-E-Mac would try to come back, getting within six points at 11-5, but unforced errors and miscommunication would keep them from completing a comeback. Ellie Rivard had a great second half of the set, mixing kills up-court and cross-court to keep the Patriots guessing. Win-E-Mac would only score five more points in the set, while Stephen-Argyle dominated to a 25-10 victory to make take the lead in the match two sets to one.

Fourth Set
The fourth set was a continuation of the third set, with Stephen-Argyle dominating. Win-E-Mac had the first point off an ace by Emily Storm, who then served it into the net on the next serve. And that was all it took for the Storm to gain momentum to take over this set. Regan Swanson and Tessa Durand would both head huge runs for Stephen-Argyle, between multiple aces, and serves that forced Win-E-Mac to chase the ball to the backcourt too far to return. The Storm went on a 10-0 run before the Patriots could get a point back. Greta Svendson came in as a late off the bench with the score 17-4, and contributed with back to back kills. Stephen-Argyle would finish the game on a 6-1 run to wrap up the set 25-5, and the match 3-1.

Stephen-Argyle improves to 1-1, and will take on Warren-Alvarado-Oslo at home on Tuesday for their home opener.  Win-E-Mac drops to 1-1.
