Oklahoma man named as suspect in car chase starting at Pembina border crossing, ending seven miles soutwest of Crookston

On April 7 at approximately 9:40 a.m., the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a high-speed pursuit that had entered Polk County from Marshall County.  The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was advised that the pursuit started in North Dakota at the Pembina Port of Entry when confronted by US Customs and Border Protections.  The pursuit entered Minnesota in Marshall County, where the driver of a 2011 Black Cadillac, Caleb Coffey, a 34-year-old from Oklahoma, was driving at high rates of speed and erratically.

The Pursuit continued south on Highway 75 into Crookston and through downtown.  The pursuit stopped on County Road 9, west of the intersection of 350th Avenue SW.  After the vehicle was stopped, there was an officer-involved shooting.  The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Caleb Coffey has been released from the Hospital and was transported to the Northwest Regional Correctional Center, awaiting charges.

On Monday, April 7 at approx. 10:07 a.m., there was an officer-involved shooting following a vehicle pursuit on Polk County Road 9 (K.T. Road) west of the intersection of 350th Avenue SW.  The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle involved in the pursuit was transported to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks with a non-life-threatening injury.

The Minnesota BCA was contacted and is responding to the scene.

There is no risk to the public.  County Road 9 from 35 Ave SW and 360th Ave SW was open to track as of 8:30 p.m. Monday evening.

Other agencies involved are the Crookston Police Department, the US Border Patrol, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and the Crookston Area Ambulance.
