THE SUMMIT INTRODUCES NEW ASSISTED LIVING “SHORT STAYS” SERVICE FOR SENIORS

The Summit Senior Housing Assisted Living Community has announced the availability of a new option for short stays at their facility.  Housing Manager Cassie Rudie said the new service, sometimes called respite care, is a trend being offered in senior housing.  “It’s something that is trending in senior housing,” said Rudie.  “Some people know it as respite care, but we are offering a fully furnished apartment for people who maybe just got out of a hospital and are needing some therapy and not ready to go home yet.  The short stay apartment could be a transition for them, and they could still receive outpatient therapy in our facility.  We have the staff assistance and services provided here as well, along with meals, activities, and any medical services people may need.”

Short stays are designed to serve any adult 55 and older for a variety of reasons such as needing extra time to recuperate from hospitalization, a caregiver needing time away, winter stays if the maintenance at home is a concern, explains Rudie. “Another good offering that we have is if there is a caregiver out in the community that needs to take a little break, maybe having some health issues themselves or taking a vacation, somebody can come and stay for just a week or even longer,” said Rudie.  “What’s nice is there is no long-term commitment required with this short-stay program.  Also, if there is somebody in the community who is thinking about assisted living, thinking about The Summit, they can come in and try it all out for a week, month or the whole winter season if the maintenance of the house is too demanding with snow removal, travel, and icy sidewalks.  It’s a great opportunity to try out assisted living and see what we’re all about.”

The Summit will provide health care, services, meals, and maintenance, while individuals enjoy a fully furnished apartment, new friends, social activities, and events.  Staff is on-site 24 hours a day, and an individualized service plan can be set up with whoever is partaking in the short-stay program said, Rudie. “No matter if they are staying for a week or a month, we’ll set up an individualized service plan and help with any of their needs,” said Rudie.  “We have staff here 24 hours a day to help with any needs they have.  They will still have the privacy they want in their apartment but be able to engage in the social events and activities we have here as well.  We’re excited about this program and another amenity to the seniors in the Crookston community and the surrounding area.”

The short-stay option lets older adults experience a shorty stay in a comfortable assisted living community for a minimum of seven days, several weeks, or even several months.  If this new offering is tailored for you or a loved one, you want more information or have any questions visit Rudie at The Summit or contact her by email at cassie.rudie@bhshealth.org or by phone at 281-0761.

The Summit is the only establishment in Crookston entirely devoted to Senior Housing with Assisted Living Services. At the same time, if long- or short-term skilled nursing services and rehabilitation are needed, the Villa St. Vincent, located on the same campus, can meet those needs as well.
