Crookston High School teacher and assistant girls hockey coach, Tim Moe, has accepted the job as Head Pirate Girls Hockey Coach for the 2018-19 season, pending school board approval at
their next meeting.
Moe was the head of the program when it began in the 2003-04 season and coached the first five seasons. “It has always been my baby and I was part of it through my KROX Radio gig (as a color commentator) and that kept me close and coming back as an assistant last year and I have watched it grow and I have seen some bumps in the road too,” said Moe. “It was a good time with family with the kids getting older and we ended up moving to town in the last year, so it won’t be the drive it was when we lived in the country, so a lot of things fell in place for me to come back and take over.”
Moe had a record of 96 wins, 34 losses and six ties in five years as head coach, a winning percentage of 74 percent. “You need players. To be honest, the first five years we had the Wheelhouse girls (Marlee and Erika), Lexi Wangen and you are going to be pretty good,” said Moe. “The future of Pirate Girls hockey is bright.”
The Pirate Girls Hockey team is coming off 5-21 record and they only graduate one player, Brelee Jobe, from the team. “We have really good kids and I am really happy with the type of kids we have in the program right now,” said Moe. “They want to do good and get better and the future is bright and that definitely helps make the decision easier.”
With Moe taking the head coaching job they are looking for an assistant coach and that search is currently underway.
