On Monday, February 8 the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a train derailment near Highway 75 and County Road 252 north of Crookston. Deputies arrived and located multiple rail cars scattered along the tracks and ditch. A total of nine of the train’s 14 cars were derailed. Several cars were leaking non-hazardous material. There is no concern for public safety at this time and no injuries were reported as a result of the derailment.
At this time, the Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to use caution when driving on Highway 75 between 210th St SW and 200th St SW as crews will be working on cleaning up the area and repairing the tracks in the coming days. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the call by the Minnesota State Patrol and the Crookston Fire Department.
