On Sunday, January 27 the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a car versus pedestrian crash on County Road 21 near 240th Ave SW (approximately five miles East of Highway 75). Deputies responded and located the victim, 23 year old Zachary Foley of Thief River Falls Minnesota, laying on the side of the road. He was later transported to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks to be evaluated and treated. Foley’s condition is currently unknown.
It was later discovered that Foley had been traveling on County Road 21 when he stopped to check on a vehicle on the side of the road with its hazard lights on. While crossing the roadway, Foley was struck by an eastbound vehicle, driven by 38 year old Joshua Melgaard from Thief River Falls Minnesota. Weather and road conditions were poor during the time of the accident and are believed to have played a part in the accident. This case is still under investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
