UMC hosting month of free applications exclusively for Crookston High School students

The University of Minnesota Crookston is hosting a month of free applications exclusively for Crookston High School students from December 4, 2024, through January 8, 2025. A kickoff event took place at the high school. CHS students receive a special app code from their admissions counselor to apply online.

U of M Crookston partners with Crookston High School (CHS) for both the post-secondary enrollment option (PSEO) and College in the High School (CIHS) programs. There are currently 57 PSEO students from CHS taking classes at U of M Crookston either on campus or online, or a combination of both during the fall semester. U of M Crookston’s CIHS program utilizes high school teachers who have met the minimum qualifications required of an adjunct instructor to teach courses at their individual schools. As of the 2023-2024 school year, there were 28 schools participating in U of M Crookston’s CIHS program.

After a student completes their credits through the PSEO or CIHS programs and graduates from high school, they can apply to attend U of M Crookston full-time and their credits apply towards their degree program seamlessly.

“We’re excited to partner with CHS to grant their students this special opportunity and help them begin their academic journey as they begin their next big chapter in life,” said U of M Crookston Director of Admissions Maggie Melvin. “Choosing a school that is the right fit is a big decision and we are here to help Crookston High School students every step of the way make sure they are being granted a University of Minnesota degree jam-packed with the experiences of a lifetime at a low, affordable cost right here in the great community of Crookston.”

“I love that UMC is a small campus because you feel comfortable around people since you get to know them so well,” says freshman Halle Winjum, who graduated from Crookston High School in 2024 and started her first semester at U of M Crookston this fall. “Since this is my hometown I am also looking forward to showing new students on campus all that Crookston has to offer.”
