UMC BASEBALL FALLS TO WAYNE STATE TO END ANOTHER GREAT SEASON

The Wayne State Wildcats beat the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Baseball team 4-3 in a loser-out game in the Northern Sun Conference tournament in Bismarck, North Dakota.

FIRST INNING –
Wayne State had a one-out single before the next two batters were retired.
UMC came out swinging as Sawyer Satrom (Soph. Portland, ND) tripled, and Caden Headlee (Sr. Fargo, ND) doubled to score a run for a 1-0 lead.

SECOND INNING-
Wayne State started the inning with a single. After a strikeout, they doubled to score a run to tie the game at 1-1.
UMC answered in the bottom of the inning when Cole Hebl (Fresh. Hillsboro, ND) singled and scored on a Kobe Senn (Soph. Fargo, ND) double for a 2-1 lead.

THIRD INNING-
Wayne State started the inning with a single, but the next three batters were retired.
UMC’s Satrom started the bottom of the inning with a walk. After a strikeout, Teddy Giefer walked. After another out, Josh Dykhoff walked to load the bases. The next batter struck out and the threat was over.

FOURTH INNING-
Wayne State reached on an error to start the inning. After a single, a run scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2. After two strikeouts, the Wildcats doubled to score another run for a 3-2 lead.
UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning.

FIFTH INNING-
Wayne State added another run in the top of the inning with back-to-back singles and a sacrifice fly for a 4-2 lead.
UMC had a walk and a hit batter in the bottom of the inning, but with two outs the next batter struck out.

SIXTH INNING-
Wayne State was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. UMC’s first two batters were retired before Mitch Goodwin was hit by a pitch. The next batter ground out.

SEVENTH INNING-
The first two Wayne State batters were retired before a walk. The next batter flew out to right field.
UMC’s Headlee walked with one out before the next two batters were retired.

EIGHTH INNING-
UMC’s Isaac Wensloff (Soph. Roseau) came in to pitch the eighth inning and got the first batter to fly out to left field. He struck out the next two batters.
UMC’s Dykhoff was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the inning. After a strikeout, Danny Wensloff walked and Goodwin doubled to centerfield to score a run to get within a 4-3 deficit. The hit was UMC’s first hit since the second inning.

NINTH INNING
UMC’s Noah Grafsgaard came into pitch the ninth inning and struck out two batters and got the other to ground out.
UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning and Wayne State won the game 4-3.

UMC’s outstanding season comes to an end with a 35-16 record, and they say goodbye to the following seniors – Brody Sorenson, Jake Hjelle, Caden Headlee, Mitch Goodwin, Christian Norby, Teddy Giefer, Ben Goelz, Jake Osowski, Nick Thompson, Tad Scherbenske, Blake Gulden.
