The reigning NSIC Tournament Champions of Minnesota State University, Mankato were the top pick in the 2023 NSIC Preseason Baseball Coaches’ Poll. The Mavericks amassed 188 points after receiving eight first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team). Augustana was second with 185 points and five first-place votes. St. Cloud State was picked third with 174 points and the final two first-place votes. The University of Mary and Minot State tied for fourth with 128 points.
The preseason coaches’ poll is based off each coach ranking each team from 14 to 1, with the top team receiving 14 points, second 13, third 12, etc.
The baseball non-conference season gets underway in early February, with NSIC play beginning on March 18. The 2023 NSIC Baseball Tournament will take the top eight teams in the final NSIC Standings.
The eight-team double elimination NSIC Tournament takes place May 10-13, hosted by the University of Mary at Veterans Memorial/Municipal Ballparks in Mandan & Bismarck, North Dakota.
UMC will open up the season at Hawaii on Saturday, February 11, when they play Hawaii Pacific University. Last year, UMC had a down year going 18-27 on the season and was 10-16 in NSIC play, which had them in 10th place while missing the playoffs.
