University of Minnesota Crookston Baseball’s Jake Hjelle (Jr., OF/1B, East Grand Forks) has been named D-2 Baseball National Player of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Hjelle was also named All-American First Team.

Hjelle hit .401 in 57 games this season. He scored 56 runs, 16 doubles, four triples, 24 home runs, 79 RBI, and he added 14 stolen bases. He was the NSIC Player of the Year, the D2CCA All-Central Region Player of the Year, and the NCBWA All-Central Region Player of the Year. He earned D2CCA All-Central Region First Team, NCBWA All-Central Region First Team, ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region First Team, and D2CCA All-America First Team.
Mike Hallquist (Jr. Fargo, ND) was named to the NCBWA All-America Second Team. He was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-America First Team and the D2CCA All-America Second Team. Hjelle and Hallquist are the program’s first-ever consensus all-Americans.
Hallquist, Hjelle, and Alex Koep (Sr., LHP, Parkers Prairie) join alum Reed Hjelle as players to earn all-American honors for the baseball program.
Hallquist hit .406, with a team-high 73 runs scored, 22 home runs, and 65 RBIs. Hallquist was named All-NSIC First Team, D2CCA All-Central Region First Team, ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region First Team, and NCBWA All-Central Region First Team. He was the NSIC Newcomer of the Year, and was named to the D2CCA All-America Second Team.
The NCBWA Division II National Pitcher of the Year was Kade Bragg of Angelo State University. The NCBWA Division II National Coach of the Year was Matt Schissel of Quincy University.
