The University of Minnesota-Crookston men’s club hockey team started hot and never relented ad they throttled St. Cloud State 15-0 Friday night at the Crookston Sports Center. UMC’s eight goal first period proved insurmountable for the Huskies, who spent the entire game searching for answers. UMC’s 15 goal victory sets a new program record for margin of victory.
FIRST PERIOD
The Golden Eagles got started early, as Anthony Foster took it himself to give UMC an early 1-0 lead. UMC kept their foot on the gas and fired numerous shots over the next several minutes. at 7:27, a Tristan Morneault goal made it 2-0 UMC. Morneault beat the goalie again 10 seconds later to make it 3-0. A fourth Golden Eagle goal came at 9:03, when Mason Romfo scored to make it 4-0. Jackson Dodds scored twice in ten seconds at 12:32 and 12:42, making it 6-0 UMC. Jackson Fuller struck less than a minute later to make it 7-0 for UMC. at 14:06, Thomas Fuller jumped onto the box score, adding on UMC’s eighth goal of the period. The St. Cloud State defense had no answers, and their offense was held to just one shot in the period.
SECOND PERIOD
UMC continued to dominate offensively. An Aidan Morelli goal early in the period put the Golden Eagles up 9-0 at 2:47. The first break for the Huskies in the game came after a UMC penalty st 4:41. but they were unable to capitalize on their lone shot attempt of the power play. UMC made it 10-0 on a third goal from Jackson Dodds, who was assisted by Anthony Foster. Running time began at this point in the period, but the clock could not tick fast enough to stop a final UMC goal. In the final seconds of the period, Alexander Bailey crossed over the Huskies goalkeeper to make it 11-0. UMC’s defense continued to make it easy for Adam Goody, who only saw three shots in the period.
THIRD PERIOD
The UMC offense continued to roll throughout the period. Aiden Morelli scored at 3:21 to extend the Golden Eagle lead to 12. At 4:03, Mitchell Coleman found the back of the net as he 5-holed the St. Cloud State goalie. Mitchell’s score made the lead 14-0 for UMC. About halfway through the period, the Huskies had a chance for a goal, but a pad save from UMC’s Adam Goody kept the shutout intact. Thomas Fuller added another UMC goal from close range at 13:34, giving the Golden Eagles a 14-0 lead. At 17:59, UMC scored once again, as Mason Romfo won in a 2-on-1 with an assist from Anthony Foster and Jackson Dodds. The Golden Eagles were content to skate out the final moments, as they sailed to a 15-0 victory.
UMC is now 17-4 on the season, and they will rematch St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon. The Huskies drop to 10-9-1 on the year.
