UMC VOLLEYBALL COMES UP SHORT IN LOSS TO MSU-MANKATO

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Volleyball team won the second set, but Minnesota State Mankato was too much in a 3-1 (14-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-9) in a Northern Sun Conference match played in Crookston.

SET ONE –
UMC had a slow start and Mankato jumped out to a 10-4 lead and cruised the rest of the way for a 25-14 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

SET TWO –
The teams were tied at 1, 2, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 16. Tied at 16, UMC went on a run with a Sydney Kruisselbrink kill, a Mankato attack error and an ace from Kruisselbrink for a 19-16 lead. Mankato called a time out and they committed another attack error for a 20-16 UMC lead. Mankato answered with a run of their own and tied the set at 22-22 before the run was stopped with a big Sabrina Leuer kill followed by a Mankato error for a UMC 24-22 lead. Mankato battled back and tied the set at 24 and 25 before UMC’s Porsha Porath had a big kill followed by another kill from Kruisselbrink for the 27-25 win to tie the match at 1-1.

SET THREE –
UMC jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the third set before Mankato bounced back to tie the set at 4-4. UMC regained the lead after a kill from Porath that sparked a three-point run. The teams were tied at 8 and 11 before Mankato bounced back with a four point rally for a 15-11 lead. UMC wasn’t able to get any closer than three points the rest of the set and Mankato won 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead.

SET FOUR –
Mankato absolutely dominated the fourth set and jumped out to an 11-1 run to start the set. They cruised the rest of the way for a 25-9 win, to win the match 3-1.

UMC drops to 2-8 on the year and 0-2 in the NSIC and will travel to Fayette, Iowa to play Upper Iowa on Friday. Mankato improves to 9-1 on the year and 2-0 in the NSIC.
