The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Golden Eagles Volleyball suffered another loss in a sweep falling to Northern State at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, SD in an NSIC match.
Minnesota Crookston won the first point of the match with an attacking error by Northern State giving UMC a 1-0 lead. A kill from Lauren Wallace (R-Soph., Bloomington) tied the set at 2-2. Tied at 3-3, Northern State won four straight points to take a 7-3 lead. Sydney Kruisselbrink (Jr., Rochester) delivered a kill bringing the Golden Eagles within 7-4. The Wolves took three of the next four points increasing their advantage to 10-5. A Porsha Porath (Soph., Windom) spike trimmed UMC’s deficit down to 10-6 before Northern State won the next four points expanding their advantage to 14-6. The Wolves continued to pull away the rest of the opening set closing out a 25-13 win.
In the second set, the two teams traded points to open the frame. A kill by Deaira Gresham (Jr., Maplewood) tied the set at 6-6, before Northern State won six straight points taking a 12-6 lead. Kills by Lauren Wallace and Porsha Porath brought the Golden Eagles within 12-8, but the Wolves settled in a cruised the rest of the set winning nine straight points later in the set to take a 24-10 lead. The Wolves went on to close their second set victory 25-11.
Minnesota Crookston played its most competitive set in the third frame. Northern State jumped out to a 2-0 lead before a Paige Porath killed trimmed the visotr’s deficit in half. A service error followed by an NSU attacking error tied the set at 4-4. Later in the set, the Wolves took four out of five points eding in front 10-7. A Northern State attacking error brought the visitors within 19-16, but that’s as close as Minnesota Crookston would come to extending the match as the Wolves completed the sweep winning the third set 25-21.
Minesota Crookston falls to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in NSIC play. The Golden Eagles return to the court on Saturday when UMC takes on MSU-Moorhead at 4:00 P.M. in Moorhead. Northern State improves to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in conference games.
