UMC VOLLEYBALL COACH SARAH MORGAN RESIGNS

The University of Minnesota Crookston athletic department announced the resignation of Sarah Morgan as head volleyball coach. Morgan is resigning to spend more time with her family. Morgan spent five seasons as head volleyball coach at the University of Minnesota Crookston.

“We are very appreciative of the work Sarah has put into our volleyball program over the last five years,” said Director of Athletics Stephanie Helgeson. “Not only has she poured her heart into the program, but she has also been instrumental in leading our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), aiding other efforts in our athletic department including our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and working with DiSC. We wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

Morgan was initially hired prior to the 2017 season. She coached Kassi Green to an All-NSIC Second Team nod in her first season as head coach. In addition, Morgan has coached 21 student-athletes to NSIC All-Academic honors. In addition, she had 12 student-athletes named NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction, the most of any program at UMC.

“I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to lead the volleyball program at the University of Minnesota Crookston over the past five years,” Morgan stated. “This program, the people, and the university are wonderful and have impacted me in many ways. I want to thank Stephanie Helgeson for giving me the opportunity, the current players for their hard work, the alumni who have built the program’s foundation, and the great people I have had the chance to work with throughout my time here. I am so excited to watch where this team goes this fall and beyond, and am confident the tradition of Golden Eagle Volleyball will continue to thrive. Thank you players for allowing me to share in your dream, and thank you Crookston for welcoming my family into your community.”

Nick Meseck will serve as the interim head coach for the Golden Eagles for the 2022 season. Meseck served as an assistant coach for the Golden Eagles in 2021. He has previously served as an assistant coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead and North Dakota State College of Science. From 2011 until his hiring as an assistant coach, Meseck was on the board and was the head coach of Summit, one of the premier club volleyball programs in North Dakota. Meseck graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science with a minor in strength and conditioning. He also earned All-NSIC honors in track and field while he was a student-athlete for the Dragons. Meseck was the NSIC Men’s Outdoor Individual Champion in men’s triple jump in 2008.

The job will be opened to find a permanent replacement following the 2022 season.
