UMC VOLLEYBALL LOSES IN THREE SETS TO AUGUSTANA

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) volleyball team is still looking for their first win in the NSIC play this season, but they will have to wait for that as the Augustana Vikings took a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-12, 25-17) on Friday night in a match played at Gary Senske Court at Lysaker Gymnasium.

First Set
The set was even early on and Crookston had a 7-6 lead thanks to two kills each from Lauren Wallace (RS Sr. Bloomington), Charlee Krieg (So. Cavalier, ND), and Mara Weisensel (So. New Ulm). The teams continued to play back-and-forth volleyball and they were still tied at 15-15. Augustana then went on a 7-2 run to take a 22-17 lead. Three errors and an ace from Natalie Koke (RS Jr. Caledonia, WI) got the Golden Eagles within two points, but the Vikings finished off the set 25-22.

Second Set
Augustana jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead which was a sign of things to come in the set. Wallace and Krieg kept UMC around at 8-6, but Augustana answered back with a strong 10-2 to take a commanding 18-8 lead. UMC showed some life with three straight points with another Wallace kill and an ace from Madison Klimek (So. Oakdale). Still, the Vikings finished the set on a 7-1 run to win the set 25-12.

Third Set
After a 4-1 run to start the set for Augustana, UMC was able to tie the set at 6-6 with kills from Weisensel and Wallace. Again, a 7-1 run from the Vikings broke the set open. The Golden Eagles tried to make a run to get back into the set with another kill from Wallace and Krieg in addition to back-to-back aces from Natalie Koke. That brought UMC within a 22-17 score, but Augustana finished the set with three straight kills to win 25-17.

UMC falls to 1-21 overall and 0-17 in the NSIC. It will not get any easier for the Golden Eagles as they will host #8 Wayne State tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm at Lysaker Gymnasium.
Augustana improves to 16-9 overall and 11-6 in the NSIC. They will be at Bemidji State tomorrow afternoon.
