UMC VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN THREE STRAIGHT TO UPPER IOWA

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Volleyball Squad dropped their ninth straight match falling against Upper Iowa 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-13) in an NSIC match played at Lysaker Gymnasium.

SET ONE – Upper Iowa jumped out to a 4-1 lead before back-to-back attacking errors trimmed UMC’s deficit down to 6-4. The Peacocks took five of the next six points taking an 11-5 lead. Deaira Gresham (Jr., Maplewood) spiked a kill cutting UMC’s deficit down to 18-11, but Upper Iowa closed out the set with a 7-0 run taking the set 25-11.

SET TWO – Minnesota Crookston jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the second set. After Upper Iowa pulled ahead 8-7, UMC took four straight points and an 11-8 lead. Back-to-back kills by Porsha Porath (Soph., Windom) followed by a Melissa Rodriguez (Sr., Sarchi Sur, Costa Rica) kill gave UMC a 17-10 lead. Upper Iowa responded by winning eight straight points giving the Peacocks an 18-17 lead. Upper Iowa continued building off the momentum and won the set 25-19.

SET THREE – After Minnesota Crookston took a 2-1 lead in the third set, Upper Iowa took eight straight points and a 9-2 lead. Minnesota Crookston trailed 19-12 before the Peacocks took three straight points gaining a 22-12 lead. Upper Iowa won the final three points of the match taking the final set 25-13.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 4-21 overall and 2-14 in conference play. UMC wraps up their home slate on Saturday against Winona State at 3:00 P.M. Upper Iowa improves to 18-7 overall and 10-7 in conference play.
