UMC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DROP CONFERENCE GAME AT AUGUSTANA 67-46

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball team trailed from the start as the Augustana Vikings picked up the conference win at home, 67-46, at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. 

FIRST QUARTER –
Augustana would start the game on a 10-2 run as UMC would get a basket from Janie Tormanen (Soph Menahga, MN). Nicole Hernandez (R-Jr. Oak Creek, WI) would add a free throw, and Rayna Klejeski (Fresh Barnum, MN) got a lay-up to make it 10-5. After two Vikings baskets, Hope Dudycha (R-Fresh Austin, MN) hit a late three, but Augustana got a lay-up at the buzzer to close the first with a 17-8 lead. 

SECOND QUARTER –
Augustana continued their scoring into the second, getting the first three baskets to open a 23-8 lead. Emma Miller (Soph Albertville, MN) hit a pair of free throws and a jumper, while Riley Jenkins (R-Fresh Galesburg, IL) poured in a three to bring Augustana’s lead down to 23-15. Klajeski would get a lay-up, but the Vikings scored the quarter’s final six points to have a 31-17 halftime lead. 

THIRD QUARTER –
UMC would start the third quarter strong, with Klejeski getting a free throw and a lay-up while Miller buried a jumper to make the Vikings’ lead sink to single digits again at 31-22. Later in the quarter, Dudycha hit a lay-up while Miller was fouled on the shot and converted the three-point play with a free throw, which made Augustana’s lead shrink to 36-30. The Vikings answered with a three and a lay-up before Miller and Tormanen each hit two free throws late in the quarter. Augustana made a late shot before the buzzer to give them a 43-34 advantage heading into the fourth. 

FOURTH QUARTER –
Augustana opened the quarter with a 13-3 run as UMC would hit a three from Dudycha, but the Vikings lead would be 56-37. Miller made a lay-up while Tormanen drained two free throws, but Augustana responded with two baskets. Miller hit a three late in the quarter, and Klejeski made a lay-up, but Augustana pulled away and took the win 67-46.

UMC drops to 8-6 on the season and 5-3 in NSIC play. The Golden Eagles return to Crookston for a home game Friday against Winona State. Augustana improves to 3-10 on the season and 2-7 in NSIC play. The Vikings will next play the University of Mary on the road on Friday.
