UMC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALL TO #2 LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN IN HAWAII

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball team found out why Lubbock Christian is ranked #1 in the country when they were outscored 21-2 in the first quarter and Lubbock Christian cruised the rest of the way in a 62-42 victory in a game played at the Shark Tank in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Lubbock Christian played all 15 players with every player getting at least six minutes in the game. 

FIRST QUARTER –
Lubbock Christian missed a three-pointer 15 seconds into the game, but grabbed the offensive rebound and made their second free throw attempt and a few seconds later added a steal and a layup for a 5-0 lead 53 seconds into the game. UMC missed their first six shots of the game while having a handful of turnovers and trailed 16-0 with 2:51 left in the quarter.  The Golden Eagles finally got on the board with an Alex Page (Fresh. Grand Forks, ND) basket with 2:36 left.  Lubbock Christian answered by scoring the final five points of the quarter to take a 21-2 into the second quarter.   UMC only made one of nine shots in the quarter and missed all four three-pointers, while Lubbock Christian was 9 of 17 from the field and 3 of 9 on three-pointers. 

SECOND QUARTER –
The second quarter was a better quarter for UMC as they outscored Lubbock Christian 14-12.  UMC got withing 14 points with #:03 left in the half when Abigail Leach made two free throws, but Lubbock Christian made a three-pointer and nobody scored in the final two-plus minutes to take a 33-16 lead into halftime. 

THIRD QUARTER –
The third quarter was another back-and-forth battle with the teams exchanging baskets for most of the quarter and Lubbock Christian led 49-29 with 1:24 remaining before they ended the quarter on a 4-0 run for a 53-29 lead going into the final 10 minutes of play. 

FOURTH QUARTER –
Lubbock Christian started the quarter by scoring the first four points with a 57-29 lead.  UMC responded with a 6-0 run behind four points from Bren Fox (Jr. Norwood Young America), but it wasn’t enough as Lubbock Christian held on for a 62-42 victory.  

UMC drops to 1-4 on the year and will start Northern Sun Conference play when they host St. Cloud State on Thursday.  Lubbock Christian improves to 7-1 on the year.
