UPDATES MADE TO VARIANCE ON EAST SHORE PROJECT, PLAN WILL GO TO MNDOT FOR APPROVAL

The Polk County Commissioners earlier this year approved a resolution for a variance to the State Aid Highway Rules of Operation for a variance on the dimensions for back-in diagonal parking along the East Shore of Maple Lake.  The commissioners updated the variance on Tuesday to reflect requests for wording the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) sent back after review explained Polk County Engineer Richard Sanders.  “Back in February I brought the East Shore Project to the board and had them do a resolution allowing us to do a variance on County State Aid Highway 10 at East Shore,” said Sanders.  “MnDOT got that resolution, had a couple of tweaks to it that they needed to be done. So I brought the resolution back to the board with the tweaks and they re-approved that resolution.”

Sanders added that the plan can now be submitted to the state for approval with work expected to be completed this summer.  “The plan is being completed and we will be submitting that to the state in the next couple of days for approval,” said Sanders.  “We’re hoping to reconstruct it this summer.”

Once the plan is submitted, Sanders anticipated it would likely be reviewed and approved in fairly quick fashion.  KROX will have more on the East Shore Project as the plan is finalized.
