Valentine “Val” Schindler passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Hillcrest Senior Living in Red Lake Falls, MN.Valentine “Val” Schindler

Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bob Schreiner Officiating. Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Terrebonne, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Valentine Henry Schindler was born May 17, 1937 in Lake Pleasant Township, Red Lake County, MN.  Val was the youngest child of John L. and Mary (Schmitz) Schindler and grew up on the family farm west of Red Lake Falls.  He attended grade school at St. Joseph Catholic School in Red Lake Falls, MN and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1956.   After high school, Val enlisted in the US Navy and attended communications school in Imperial Beach, CA.  For the remaining duration of his four years of service he was a communications technician stationed in Japan.

He was united in marriage to Dolores Hagl on October 7, 1961 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN.  Val and Dolores raised their 11 children on a family dairy farm east of Red Lake Falls, MN in Gervais Township.  In addition to farming, Val began fixing and repairing neighbor’s farm equipment and then started a custom metal work business called “Val’s Vice”.   He designed and built a car hoist, stock trailer, scaffold, cement mixer, hay wagons, bale squeeze, utility trailers, a honey bucket and much more.

Val will be remembered by his children for the many handmade items such as tricycles, wagons, play houses, and farm toys.    Watching Star Trek (original TV Series) and playing the guitar were among some of the things he enjoyed.   While stationed in In Japan, Val developed an interest in motorcycles and continued riding them for many years.

Val is survived by his wife of 57 years Dolores Schindler of Red Lake Falls, MN; children Janet (Keith) Queen of Kalona, IA, Joseph Schindler of Red Lake Falls, MN, David (Ann) Schindler of Cheyenne, WY, Diane (Rob) Mipro of New Orleans, LA, Wayne (Jackie) Schindler of Hastings, MN, Richard (Kristi) Schindler of   Burnsville, MN, Nancy (Ernest) Mipro of New Orleans, LA, Susan (Conrad) Maher of Malden, MA, Sally (Jeff) Junaid of Huntley, IL, Kevin (Agnes) Schindler of Buffalo, MN and Carl (Brenda) Schindler of Red Lake Falls, MN; 26 grandchildren Sam Queen, Rosie Queen, Nolan Schindler, Mara Schindler, Robert Mipro, Rachel Mipro, Olivia Mipro, Claire Mipro, Luke Mipro, Kayla Schindler, Evan Schindler, Nathan Schindler, Logan Schindler, Grace Schindler, Michelle Mipro, Nicholas Mipro, Finn Maher, Liam Maher, Shawn Junaid, Alia Junaid, James Schindler, George Schindler, Francis Schindler, Lucy Schindler, Isaac Schindler, Jacob Schindler; brothers Vernon (Mary) Schindler and Theodore (Marianne) Schindler both of Red Lake Falls, MN, sister-in-law Pat (Eugene) Schindler of Red Lake Falls, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents John and Mary; brothers Edward (Jean) Schindler, Raymond (MaryAnn) Schindler, Bernard Schindler, Eugene Schindler, stillborn infant brother Louis Schindler; sisters Louise (Joe) Kees, Josephine (Eugene) Teggatz, Veronica (Leo) Hoefer and Mary Anne (John) Schafer; sister-in-law Marianne (Theodore) Schindler.
