WIN-E-MAC CRUISES TO A 48-6 VICTORY OVER WARREN-A-O IN STATE QUARTER-FINALS

The Warren-Alvarado-Oslo Pony football team had five snaps go over the quarterbacks head, one led to a safety and another one led to a touchdown as the Win-E-Mac Patriots cruised to a 48-6 victory in the Minnesota State 9-Man Football quarterfinals played at Moorhead High School.

FIRST QUARTER-
The Ponies started the game with the ball and were forced into a three and out. Win-E-Mac’s first possession started with a bang when Quarterback Gavin Walker ran the ball 23 yards to get into Pony territory. Four plays later, Walker threw a perfect pass into the endzone and Nathan Fortman made the catch for a 24-yard touchdown pass. After the two-point conversion, the Patriots led 8-0 almost halfway through the quarter. Warren-Alvarado-Oslo’s next offensive series only lasted one play after the snap went over the head of the quarterback and Win-E-Mac recovered the ball. The Pony defense came up big and forced Win-E-Mac to turn the ball over on downs after four plays.
Both teams punted on their next possessions and Win-E-Mac led 8-0 after the first quarter.

SECOND QUARTER –
The second quarter started with a Warren-Alvarado-Oslo punt that went 25 yards, but a decent Patriot return brought it back to the Pony 29-yard line. On the first play of the series, Win-E-Mac handed the ball to Kobe Hamre who ran 25 yards for a first down. On the next play, Remy Goodwin scored on a four-yard run and after a two-point conversion, the Patriots led 16-0.
Warren-Alvarado-Oslo started their next drive on their own 12-yard line and the first play had the snap go over the quarterbacks head into the endzone and the Ponies recovered and Win-E-Mac received two points for a safety for an 18-0 lead. Neither team was able to do much on their next offensive series, but Win-E-Mac got the ball back at the 32-yard line. On the first play, the Patriots lost two yards on a run and after a complete pass, on third down and 10, Win-E-Mac’s Walker threw another perfect pass down the far sideline and hit Kobe Hamre on the run for a 70 yard touchdown and after a two-point conversion they led 26-0 with 7:13 left in the half.
Win-E-Mac got the ball back with three minutes left in the half and Walker had a couple of 14 yard runs, and a 14-yard and a 19-yard pass to Goodwin down to the two-yard line. Two plays later, Fortman scored on a two-yard run with 10 seconds left in the half for a 32-0 lead at halftime.

THIRD QUARTER –
Win-E-Mac started the second half with the ball and on the first play they ran the ball four yards and after a 15-yard facemask penalty, the play totaled 19 yards. The next play was a three-yard run with another 15-yard facemask penalty for an 18-yard play. Two plays later, Fortman ran five yards for another touchdown and a 40-0 lead with 10:34 left in the quarter.
The Pony’s first offensive series of the second half wasn’t a good start. They completed a three-yard pass before Win-E-Mac stripped the ball and recovered the fumble. Four plays later, Win-E-Mac scored on a Walker two-yard run and after a two-point conversion, they led 48-0 with 7:10 left in the quarter.
Neither team scored the rest of the way and Win-E-Mac took a 48-0 lead into the final quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER –
Warren-Alvarado-Oslo had the ball at the beginning of the fourth quarter and a few plays into the drive, Brandon Miller broke a tackle at the line of scrimmage and sprinted for a 54-yard touchdown, his 12 rushing touchdown of the season to cut the Win-E-Mac lead down to 48-6.
Win-E-Mac took most of their starters out the rest of the way and took as much time off the clock as possible and coasted the rest of the way for a 48-6 victory.

Warren-Alvarado-Oslo ends the season with an 8-4 record, a year after winning one game. The Win-E-Mac Patriots improve to 12-0 on the year and will play Mountain Lake in the state semi-finals at U.S. Bank Stadium on Friday, November 15.
