WARROAD CRUISES TO A BIG WIN OVER RED LAKE COUNTY IN LEGION BASEBALL TOURNEY

The Warroad American Legion Post 25 had a solid pitching performance and big hits on their way to a 9-1 victory over the Red Lake County American Legion Posts 22 and 623 in the second round of the Northwest North Sub-state tournament semi-final game in Ada.

FIRST INNING-
Warroad’s Kasen Pietruszewski led off the game with a single and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Liam Grover reached on a fielder’s choice where Red Lake County elected to get the out with the lead runner for the second out of the inning. The next batter flew out to left-center field and Ben Gullingsrud tracked it down deep in the gap and made the catch for the third out of the inning.
Red Lake County’s Will Gieseke blasted a line drive up the middle on the first pitch of the bottom of the inning. Shortly after, he was picked off at first base. The next two batters were retired, and the game was scoreless after one inning.

SECOND INNING-
Kanon Hoffman led off the inning with a walk and stole second before moving to third base on an error on his stolen base attempt. After the next two batters were retired, Hudson Sprouls blasted a line drive to the left-center field fence to score a run for a 1-0 lead.
Red Lake County’s Blake Audette led off with a single before a double play. The next batter grounded out, and the inning was over.

THIRD INNING-
Warroad opened the game up in the third inning when Pietruszewski Chamernick led off with singles. Liam Grover walked to load the bases. Sam Hard and Kanon Hoffman hit sacrifice flies to score two runs for a 3-0 lead. Jacob McFarlane singled to score another run, and Zach Rose doubled to score a run for a 5-0 lead. Hudson Sprouls doubled to score another run for a 6-0 lead.
The first two Red Lake County batters were retired before Cain Cardinal reached on an error and advanced to second base on the same error. The next batter popped out, and the inning was over.

FOURTH INNING-
Warroad broke the game open in the fourth inning when Pietruszewskiwalked and Chamernick singled. Grover singled to score a run, another run scored on an error, and the third run of the inning scored on a wild pitch for a 9-0 Warroad lead.
Red Lake County’s first two batters were retired before Blake Audette single, but was out on a fielder’s choice in the next at bat.

FIFTH INNING-
Warroad’s Sprouls reached on an error with one out and Kael Thompson was hit by a pitch before the next two batters were retired.
The first two Red Lake County batters were retired before Riley Broden and Cain Cardinal were hit by pitches. The next batter flew out to right field to end the inning.

SIXTH INNING-
Warroad’s Grover led off the inning reaching on an error before the next three batters were retired.
Red Lake County’s Brock Seeger reached on a one-out walk before the next two batters were retired, and Warroad took a 9-0 lead into the seventh inning.

SEVENTH INNING-
Warroad’s Wesley Shriner reached on an error before the next two batters were retired.
Red Lake County tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning when Schmitz walked. After an out, Rily Broden singled, and after another out, Gieseke walked to load the bases. Ben Gullingsrud singled to score a run, but the next batter was retired, and Warroad won the game 9-1.

Red Lake County drops to 9-5 on the year and will play in a loser-out game on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. KROX will join the game in progress at 10:15 (after church services.)
Warroad improves to 15-6 on the year and will play in the championship on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
