WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HOLDS SAFETY TOWN 2022 FOR KINDERGARTNERS

All through the week of June 6-10, the Washington Elementary School has been teaching its kindergarteners a variety of safety topics in a program called “Safety Town 2022.”

Every day this week, from 8:30 to 10:35 a.m., kindergarteners received presentations on safety topics from members of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Crookston Pet Clinic, Ottertail Power Company, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and other organizations for everyday activities they partake in. The students were split into four teams, with student and teacher leaders guiding them to each station and participating in the activities. Such as a make-shift town in the Washington School Gym with small bikes and traffic lights to teach the kids how to use turning and stop hand signs in real-time situations with stoplights and pedestrians, and presentations in ambulances and fire trucks. These safety topics included;

  • Train Safety

At the end of the program on Friday, June 10, at 9:45 a.m., the students’ families are invited to the Washington Elementary School Gym for a graduation ceremony, where the students will receive graduation certificates and a book about safety called “A Little Spot of Safety at School.” After the ceremony, the students and families are welcome to enjoy cake and lemonade at the reception. The Safety Town Program would like to thank its many sponsors and donators that made it so this program could be possible, as well as its program team leader volunteers, and the presenters who took the time to teach these students tips that will keep them safe.
